Gianluca Festa, former mayor of Avellino

Gianluca Festa, former mayor of Avellino, remains under house arrest: this was decided by the judge for preliminary investigations Giulio Argenio, who in the late afternoon of today rejected the request presented by the lawyer of the resigning mayor of the capital of Irpinia, the lawyer Luigi Petrillo, who had presented a request for mitigation or cancellation of house arrest at the end of the interrogation last Tuesday in the Court of Avellino. The same lawyer announced the appeal to the Review Court, to which the other two suspects in the investigation, the architect Fabio Guerriero and the former municipal manager Filomena Smiraglia, have already turned.

Meanwhile, today the carabinieri and financiers returned to the offices of the Municipality of Avellino to acquire new documents for investigations. These documents would concern companies with a working relationship with the municipality of Avellino and which sponsored Eurochocolate, the event which took place last February in the centre. Festa and the other two suspects are accused in various capacities of embezzlement, misdirection, corruption in the exercise of functions, undue inducement and disrupting the freedom of auctions. The investigation, therefore, continues: the unrepeatable investigations on the electronic devices seized in recent days have also begun, while on May 7th, however, the materials seized from the resigning former mayor Gianluca Festa will be examined. In the meantime, the deadline for the presentation of the electoral lists in view of the municipal elections scheduled for June is also approaching: there is time for another 15 days for the delivery of the lists.
