VITTORIO VENETO (TREVISO) – Living without water in the heart of the UNESCO site of the Prosecco Hills and in a municipality that supplies 35 percent of all water to Piave Servizi users. Seven families from via San Lorenzo, in the hill town of the same name, report the lack of possibility of connecting their homes to the water network. Their homes have always used water sources or artesian wells. But from June 2022 water began to run low, shortly thereafter remaining completely dry. «We hoped – these families testify – that with the approach of the cold season and the return of the rains the situation could normalize. Unfortunately this was not the case.” They asked for a meeting with Piave Servizi, the competent water service manager in Vittorio Veneto, in order to be connected to the network. But for approximately 1,200 meters of pipes necessary to connect these houses to the aqueduct “we were told that they were approximately 300 thousand euros are needed and that the company, for so few families, would hardly have invested such capital. However – they note – 200 thousand euros were found to finance the construction of a roundabout on the provincial road.”

THE KNOT

The problem is known to the mayor Antonio Miatto. These homes in San Lorenzo are among dozens, in several mountain locations in the city, still without a connection to the water network. «With drought – confirms the mayor – these familiesbut not all of them permanently resident, they run out of water. And the difficulty here is that to expand the network there are high costs for a limited number of families: Piave Servizi told me they are available, but there are priorities, that is, they intervene first where there is serve many more families. We highlighted the problem to the manager and asked him to intervene as he recently did for 13 families in Piadera who were connected to the water network.”

AVAILABILITY’

On the case of San Lorenzo, Piave Servizi announces that «the drafting and approval of an agreement is expected soon new investment plan by the Eastern Veneto Basin Council, therefore, with the recent expression of interest from residents, we will also include the San Lorenzo area among those being evaluated for a possible extension. Once the financing has been obtained, Piave Servizi confirms its full availability to intervene». «San Lorenzo – adds the company – is not the only place without an aqueduct. Piave Servizi has several areas of expertise currently fed by artesian wells or water sources. Over the years we have carried out various interventions to extend the aqueduct network in areas without it, but always after technical verification of sustainability with respect to the cost/benefit ratio and above all confirmation of the interest in connecting on the part of resident families”.
