PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The personal exhibition and presentation of the text “Nove per Nove – Poems of Tommaso Romano and paintings of Togo” was inaugurated at the LI.AR.T gallery in Palermo, with a preface by the well-known poet Guido Oldani, edition Ex Libris. Togo, the stage name of Enzo Migneco, was born in Milan in 1937. However, he spent the years of his early education in Messina, the city of origin of the family, which also included his uncle Giuseppe Migneco, a well-known painter. Between the 1950s and 1960s the city of the Strait was the center of a lively cultural debate involving Migneco and other young painters who frequented the Bar Nettuno.

His first solo exhibition in the city dates back to 1959, however in 1961 he left the island for Milan, then the true center of innovation of European culture. In ’63 he married his partner and opened his own studio, starting a fervent season of collective and personal exhibitions which would remain uninterrupted throughout his career. In the 70s he approached graphics, of which he would become a skilled and recognized master. Among the pressure of commitments, in 1983 Togo also had time to found an art center, Aleph, in Milan. Graphic and painting exhibitions follow one another, attracting the attention of critics and the public. His activity is also rich in Sicily, the land of origin which will be a point of reference and uninterrupted inspiration for the artist. Starting from a painting derived from Sicilian realist experiences, Togo soon arrived at his own freely post-impressionist style. A post-impressionism that he elaborates from the nature of the Sicilian landscape, and from a Sicilian predisposition to nourish himself and merge different styles and languages with great energy. Post cubism and expressionism (Caramel 89), can certainly be considered as elements of Togo’s vibrant style: the one for the rational geometries, the reversed perspectives, the other for the strength of the colour.- Photo: Togo press office -( ITALPRESS). pc/com 26-Apr-24 17:31 .
