From 2 to 4 May, a blessed copy of the painting of Saint Nicholas will return to the Municipalities of Bari, accompanied by exhibitions and performances designed for children and families. An event to bring the atmosphere of the Patron Saint’s Day to life in the city neighbourhoods.

The icon of the saint will leave from Town Hall IV on Thursday 2 May, starting at 10 am, in Piazza Santa Maria del Fonte, in Carbonara, while in the afternoon, from 5 pm, it will move to Town Hall II, inside Parco 2 Giugno . Friday 3 May, at 10 am, it will be the turn of the V Municipality with the arrival of the saint in the church of San Nicola, in Catino; finally on Saturday 4 May, at 10 am, the painting will arrive at Municipality III, in the Mother of Divine Providence parish, at San Paolo.

The painting of San Nicola, accompanied by the timpanists and flag-wavers of the Militia Sancti Nicolai, will travel through the city streets led by the figures of the cultural association I Marinai della Traslazione. At the same time it will be followed by the traveling exhibition “A ma sci alla Caravelle”, curated by the APS “I figuranti di San Nicola”: five totems with information, archive photos and some of the most beautiful and significant posters of the feast of San Nicola from the years 50 to today will follow the icon of the saint during the events. With the arrival of Saint Nicholas in the Municipalities it will be possible to experience the atmosphere of a medieval square also thanks to the activities of the Aps-Ets Brvndisivm Historica, which will set up various stalls, including an educational one on weapons and armor in the 11th century, one on the study scribe of medieval characters, in particular the Bari Type character, another for the creation of prayer crowns and, finally, a fencing course reserved for children.

Furthermore, the little ones will be able to have fun wearing medieval clothes in a corner designed specifically for them. The events will close with an artistic performance by the actor Francesco Ocelli who, playing Nicephorus, the author of the first account of the translation of the body of Saint Nicholas, will declaim in verse the adventure of the sailors returning from Myra.
