Everything is ready in Marsala for the ninth edition of the Wine Marathon. There will be almost 800 participants in the event organized by the Polisportiva Marsala Doc, with the patronage of the municipal administration.

The start of the running race is set for 9.30 am, on the seafront near the Monument to the Thousand. From here we will continue to Piazza Piemonte Lombardo, via R. Montmasson (ex Mario Nuccio), via Mazzini, Piazza del Popolo, via Vespri, Piazza Mameli, via Sibilla, viale Isonzo, Piazza della Vittoria, viale Cesare Battisti, via Honor Frost ( former Egadi Block), via Capitano Falco, Lungomare Salinella. Here, the “turning point” near the first building in Sappusi and back towards the Lungomare Boeo. It is a route of approximately 7 kilometers which will be repeated three times.

The Polisportiva Marsala DOC, chaired by Filippo Struppa – organizer of the running race – will guarantee with its own staff and volunteers the protection of the intersections involved in the route, also observing the requirements of the Municipal Police Command which, with a specific Ordinance (165/2024), regulated transit and parking along the race route and in the surrounding streets.
In particular, for Sunday 28th – from 8.30 am to 2 pm – both the ban on vehicular circulation along the aforementioned route and the temporary ban on access and transit on the roads that intersect the same route have been established, as reported in the aforementioned Ordinance. This also establishes that from 5 am to 2 pm on Sunday 28 April, a ban on parking will be established in sections/sides of streets and squares adjacent/involved in the race route.
Alternative routes have been planned which allow transit – albeit limited, from 8.30am to 2pm – in some sections not affected by next Sunday’s route: vehicles coming from Vie Dei Mille, Edoardo Alagna and Sanità will be allowed temporary transit in the opposite direction of Piazza Piemonte and Lombardo (on the adjacent side not affected by the race circuit) to enter Via Stefano Bilardello and, from here, with an obligatory turn onto Via Honore Francesco Pellegrino; closure of Corso Amendola at via Gagini with the obligation to turn onto the latter, except for residents and authorized persons; creation of a one-way lane in via Mazzini for vehicles coming from via Edoardo Alagna, with a mandatory turn left onto via Stefano Bilardello or right (behind the Bus Station) for resident/authorized vehicles heading towards via Scalilla; Reversal of the direction of travel in via Armando Diaz, stretch of Piazza San Francesco-via Colocasio with direction of travel on the latter.
Finally, “preferential lanes” have been established, delimited by barriers, to facilitate the exit of vehicles from the driveways located along the route of the foot race.
An extraordinary cleaning and sweeping service will be active at the end of the race, also removing the water bottles used by the athletes.
Taking into account the alternative routes provided which, albeit with limitations, allow you to move by car during the running race, the municipal administration invites citizens to collaborate. The Wine Marathon, in fact – as demonstrated over the years – has positive effects on the area, representing an event of notable sporting, social and tourist appeal.
