“The Anti-fascist Associations of the province of Savona express great satisfaction for the success of the demonstrations for the 2024 Liberation Day which saw a large participation, especially of young people“. The press note signed by the Savonese Anti-Fascist Committee and relating to the recent celebrations of April 25th opens with these words.
“In addition to the great event held at the Priamar fortress in Savona which saw, in addition to the exhibitions organized by CGIL, ANPI, ISREC Foundation, ANED, UDI and Centofiori Foundation visited by hundreds of people, the musical concert with the massive participation of young people from from outside the province – we read again in the note – Great participation of citizens was also recorded in the traditional torchlight procession on the 24th which saw Savona packed and which ended in Piazza Martiri della Libertà with a special tribute to the anniversary of the inauguration of the monument to the Resistance created by Agenore Fabbri and inaugurated in year 1974. These Associations and those forming part of the Anti-Fascist Committee would like to thank the municipal administration of Savona and all the municipal administrations that have organized commemorative events in the provincial territory and condemn the few unspeakable facts which certainly did not detract from the great significance and the success of events“.
“A firm condemnation therefore of what happened in Carcare to the president of ISREC who, after finishing his speech, was rebuked by a Valbormidese mayor present, as happened in Borghetto Santo Spirito where the mayor argued with the official speaker delegated by CGIL and ANPI – underlined by the Savonese Anti-Fascist Committee – We also record the silent scene that took place in Alassio where the mayor decided, during his greeting, not to say a word about the anniversary of April 25th. A more serious event occurred in Altare at the military cemetery of the White Crosses where a real dispute arose between the mayor and a delegation from San Marco, who were then joined by a regional councilor and where the commemoration ended with greetings not in keeping with Liberation Day“.
“These gestures encourage us even more to commit ourselves to transmit the right memory and value of Freedom and Democracy regained thanks to the sacrifice of the martyrs” conclude the Antifascist Associations.
