L’AQUILA – “A widespread perception of insecurity on the part of citizens which, politically, worries us a lot, if it is true that it could undermine a full rebirth of the city, and of the historic center in particular. What pushed us to ask for a meeting were the requests of citizens who have been complaining for some time about an increase in deviant phenomena, expressing fears and fears, as well as concern about some recent news events that had never occurred in the city”.
Thus, in a note, the L’Aquila Democratic Party on the institutional meeting which took place yesterday afternoon in the Prefecture, in the presence of the Prefect, the Police Commissioner, the provincial Commander of the Carabinieri and the provincial Commander of the GDF, on the topic of security in the city.
The PD delegation was made up of the senator Michele Finaby the secretary Nello Avellaniby the regional councilor Pierpaolo Pietrucci and city councilors Stefano Albano, Stefania Pezzopane And Stefano Palumbo.
“We sincerely thank the Prefect of L’Aquila, Giancarlo Di Vincenzo, for having accepted our request for an institutional meeting on the topic of security in the city, and for having wanted the Chief of Cabinet at the discussion table Sergio Di Iorio, the commissioner Enrico De Simone, the provincial Commander of the Carabinieri Nicola Mirante, the provincial commander of the Guardia di Finanza, colonel Cosimo Lamanuzzi“, we read again in the note.
“We appreciated the prevention and deterrence activity implemented by the police who, in yesterday’s fruitful meeting, illustrated to us in depth the many actions carried out under the coordination of the Prefecture to guarantee the security of the territory, with absolutely comforting results if it is true that, in the last year, crimes have decreased by 12% in the province of L’Aquila – observes the Democratic Party – The Prefect and the police have demonstrated a strong synergy, explaining how, while not lowering their guard, the city can today be defined as safe”.
“We return to denounce the absolutely reckless attitude of some political exponents of the center-right majority who, in recent months, had gone so far as to propose the intervention of the army in the streets, even evoking the presence in the historic center of ‘policemen in riot gear ‘; the theme is another, as we have been repeating for some time, and that is the urgency of a political intervention capable of affecting the reasons that justify the perception of insecurity of citizens”.
“We are deeply concerned – it is added – by the total lack of attention towards the social dimension. Public space must be recovered as a place of meeting, socializing and culture, especially for the young generations who, today, in the historic center as in the suburbs have no alternative to the so-called ‘nightlife’. We should be concerned about the absence of cultural centers, libraries, cinemas, open and free spaces that the young generations deeply need for their growth. We also believe that interventions of a social and inclusion nature should be carried out, aimed at the most vulnerable and marginal groups: in this sense, a more structured collaboration should be initiated with the entire world of associations active in the city”.
“We should be concerned about taking care of public spaces to make them accessible to citizens: an active and present community is the best possible form of prevention. In abandoned and dark spaces, and there are many of them in the center and on the outskirts, it is easier for episodes of deviance to occur. Urban decorum and liveability must absolutely be improved, therefore, with the increase in public lighting, with the lighting, even temporary, of the streets and areas not yet affected by the reconstruction processes”.
“For these reasons, we reiterate the request for the establishment of a permanent consultation and planning table with residents, professionals and traders, in the presence of delegates from the majority and opposition council groups”, concludes the Democratic Party.
