The area of the old railway yard is destined to change forever in the coming days. No more degradation, weeds and neglect, but an area that will be characterized by gardens, multipurpose spaces of the Municipality, new pedestrianization and a cycle path. The archaeological site discovered under the overpass will also be valorised, made “visible” and made safe, away from uncivilized or ill-intentioned people, with the aim of ensuring a resumption of the excavation campaigns that the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage will consider carrying out . In fact, years ago traces of ancient ruins were discovered in the area, a settlement from the 4th century BC which could contain remains of the Temple of Demeter. This morning the mayor, Lucio Greco, met with municipal technicians and company managers. With them he carried out an inspection of the areas affected by the construction site.

«It is the second of the nine construction sites – explains Greco – that we have managed to start in compliance with the scheduled schedule. This area of the city, the former railway yard, will be reborn. I am truly happy to give this news to my fellow citizens. In a few days, while the company completes the project executions in the sixty days foreseen by the contract, the area will be cleaned and the construction site will begin to open. Let’s hope already in the first days of next week. Thanks go to the councilor, the manager, the technicians. And also to the company that we met this morning and which provided us with maximum availability.”

Present at the meeting were the municipal councilor for public works, Romina Morselli, the manager, Tonino Collura and the attorney of the contracting company, Bartolomeo De Francisci.

For the execution of the works, which also include a new layout of the flyover (viale Falcone). The southern carriageway, on the Via Tevere side, will be transformed into a large suspended garden, with a pedestrian path and bike path. Vehicle traffic will be moved to the northern carriageway which will become two-way. 5 million euros expected.
