An 11-year-old died after three days of agony following an accident at the table, suffocating while eating a piece of pizza. The doctors tried to save him first at the Maresca hospital and then at the Santobono, but unfortunately their efforts were in vain. The episode happened last weekend in Torre del Greco, about ten kilometers south of Naples, when the child was in the center with his mother.
Organs donated to six young patients
The child, suffering from autism, was eating a small pizza bought by his mother from a nearby bakery, when he began to feel ill and had difficulty breathing. His parents immediately took him to the nearby Maresca hospital, where rescue attempts were made, but the staff decided to urgently transfer him to Santobono. Here the boy underwent two surgeries and, despite hopes of recovery in the following three days, he didn’t make it. However, the parents chose to donate their son’s organs, allowing them to save or improve the lives of at least six other young patients. The funeral was held yesterday.
