Bergamo. Opens the Parking Fara and traffic changes in Bergamo. The city welcomes the car park that has been awaited for over thirty years, whose inauguration is scheduled for Saturday May 4thand the center changes its appearance a bit with respect to the theme of mobility.

“Much has been done to date – said the Mobility councilor Stefano Zenoni -. The news concerns the closure of Città Alta in its evening hours and a focus on the permanent ZTL of via San Lorenzo and Piazza Mercato del Fieno. As regards the first, nothing changes: the same methods and times decided three years ago remain, when Thursdays were also included. It is valid on all holidays and during summer time from Thursday to Saturday. Therefore everything remains unchanged and those who have a permit will continue to behave exactly as they have always done. The only modification is the change in the perimeter of the ZTL: today the gate is at the intersection between the avenue and via Locatelli, and what has been achieved is that it splits in two and the control goes downhill, i.e. from Conca d’Oro roundabout, and that it is positioned another between via Locatelli and via Brigata Lupi, with one-way reversal. In recent days, the traffic light times have also been revised, synchronizing them, in such a way as to avoid the formation of queues. From May 1st the two new gates will be effective and for 30 days, until May 31st, they will be manned by the local police, which will then be followed by electronic control. And they will have red and green writing, depending on whether it is active or not.”

“The novelty of the car park is that it opens but also the fact that the car parks of Porta Sant’Alessandro And Three Weapons they will have been equipped with demarcation LEDs – he continues -. The only point where there will be a real-time indication of parking availability in the Upper Town will be the avenue Vittorio Emanueleprecisely at the roundabout of Conca d’Oro, and also in other places, panels have been installed which will give addresses of free places and which at the same time will mark the license plate. When Città Alta is open it will only indicate availability, if closed it will avoid getting a fine. The issue of demarcation only makes sense when the most historic part will not be accessible, in addition to traffic control and management of the flow of cars. The other change is that the places on the walls, now blue, will become yellow: the whole area will be dedicated to residents and those who access it for work reasons. There are over 200 spaces and in all likelihood stalls for motorcycles will also be added. Overall there will be around 700 car parks, of which 400 at the Fara Parking, around a hundred in the other two car parks and 200 which will be available on the Walls”.

“Last modification is the one relating to Saint Lawrence. From May 13th the choice to make it a permanent ZTL will be implemented – reiterates Zenoni -. This choice brought with it a new opening at the Fara Parking exit, a sort of roundabout. From that date there will be a police presence and in all likelihood it will continue until July 31st. The places at the Hay Market will all be for residents and authorized residents. The license plates of the parents who attend the nurseries in that area have already been removed, around 4 per family, to allow them to manage the service, for a maximum time of around half an hour and two accesses per day. From August 1st the cameras will be operational. The hourly parking rates will be 3.30 per euro, in addition to a series of subscriptions designed for daytime workers”. And on public transport: “We confirm the content of the PUMS, that is line 3 can become more effective, with more trips, so as to be added to line 1 and the funicular”.

The choice to avoid the overpass on Città Alta has been postponed: “The PUMs has a ten-year duration and contains this action, aimed at protecting the Walls, but the administration did not arrive in time. There is no implementation date and it will be the prerogative of the next administration. Another package left for posterity is the one linked to the new urban logistics scenario. They are also foreseen in the approved project two further gates to protect the existing nocturnal restricted traffic zone in via Pignolo Alta and via San Tomaso, starting from May 9th with the presence of agents and from June 8th electronically”.

The Municipality has prepared a document that can be downloaded on the site, which contains 25 questions and as many answers to clarify all citizens’ doubts.

“We kept the promises we wrote in the electoral program – like this Robi Amaddeo, municipal councilor -. And this is not a choice linked to the desire to close Città Alta, but to the desire to protect it. Nothing changes in terms of accessibility.”
