Beyond the damage, the insult: the damage – for the Municipality of Cuneo – is seen in the loss of one hundred car parks for public use which should have been created in the basement of the Agora complex in Piazza della Constitutiona. The joke is that after a wait of over forty years the Municipality now finds itself (finally) in possession of the square and the roads in the area, but in “healthy” conditions that are anything but satisfactory.

The issue was brought to the City Council by a question from Cuneo Mia, which will be discussed on the evenings of Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th April.

A story that lasted forty-three years

Claudio Bongiovanni – group leader of Cuneo Mia – underlines how in November 2021, according to the deed of the notary Martinelli, the company Eurofim real estate srl proceeded with the transfer to the Municipality for public use of the areas registered in the land register which correspond to Piazza della Constitution and the surrounding areas: a part of the city that has lived in irregularity for forty-three years, a situation arises only thanks to various interpellations from minority groups and with the loss of the aforementioned one hundred public underground car parks.

The assignment of the cadastral update was officially entrusted on 4 October last year and the transfer of ownership was officially defined on 6 December.

Bongiovanni asks the Municipality, now owner, to account

The current health conditions of the square are not great – writes Bongiovanni – , report lowering of the churchyard due to the use of materials unsuitable for its construction and for this reason 16 car parks have already been cordoned off, no longer usable. Via Luigi Einaudi in its roadable part has suffered collapses near the underground car park below (here too probably due to the poor consistency of the material used), and the appropriate danger signs are missing”.

How do you intend to remedy the situation of degradation, now that the Municipality is the owner of the public property?” concludes Bongiovanni.
