“A thousand interventions in total to take concrete action to protect and enhance the very rich cultural heritage of Italy with Campania and above all Irpinia as protagonists”.

Thus the regional councilor Livio Petitto, group leader in Campania of “Moderates and Reformists”, when reading the three-year program of public works 2024-2026 approved by the Minister of Culture, for a total amount of 235,424,970.15 Euros34,289,484.50 Euros to the Campania Region for a total of 125 funded projects.

In the Province of Avellino, significant resources are provided in the sectors of Fine Arts and Landscape, Museums, Archaeology, Libraries and Archives. Starting from the proposals presented by the Superintendence for the provinces of Salerno and Avellino for the Fine Arts and Landscape sector:
restoration, static consolidation and conservative restoration works of the Church of San Leonardo in Avellino (220,000.00), those for the safety and recovery of the Church of the Seven Priests in Avella (410,000.00), then the safety intervention of the panoramic tower and the surrounding walls of the Castle of San Michele on Colle Sant’Angelo in Volturara Irpina. (500,000.00).

A further 400,000.00 are intended for the safety measures of the attic floor and the painted canvas ceiling of the Church of San Trifone martyr in Marzano di Nola, and 320,000.00 for the restoration and restoration works of the wooden floor, the support and of the painted canvas on the ceiling of the Church of Maria Ss Assunta in cielo in Taurano.

Good news also for the recovery and valorisation of the archaeological area of ​​the Ancient Abellinum of Atripalda, recipient of a further 100,000.00, while for the Libraries sector the Municipality of Mercogliano stands out, recipient of 315 thousand euros divided as follows:
35,000.00 for setting up the educational services area -SED- (seats for communities and various); 40,000.00 for the safety, reorganization and conservation of the parchment heritage; 175,000.00 for the renovation work to secure the “R” room and attached storage areas; 20,000.00 for the better organization of the spaces of the F-Exhibition Hall for the adaptation of the escape routes and 45,000.00 for the safety and protection of the library assets of Hall M. Setting up the researchers’ study room.

Finally, a total of 132 thousand euros for the State Archives of Avellino for safety works on the underground floors, technological systems and energy efficiency.

“It is truly important news for our territory – comments the Honorable Petitto – and I thank Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano for his attention, who for some time has been making a concrete commitment also to the proposal I submitted to him to nominate archaeological sites in the province of Avellino to become of national cultural interest. Meanwhile, thanks to these appropriations, it will be possible to carry out interventions of absolute importance for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, restoration, recovery and valorisation of areas of exceptional cultural value. Minister Sangiuliano gave Irpinia the right consideration, by virtue of our cultural heritage which deserves to be valorised. No territory of Campania has been left out, as often happens in the choices made by the regional council.
The next step – concludes the group leader of Moderates and Reformists – is to also intervene for the overall redevelopment works of the Clock Tower, for which the Municipality and Superintendence have already started the planning process some time ago, to return the most important symbol to the people of Avellino of the capital”.
