From Tuscan cuisine to…dogs and goats: six events and other advice for all sportspeople who love culture

“Not just sport” it’s a special that will keep you company every week from today, with a very simple formula: they will be reported to you the six events not to be missed of the Pistoia weekend. Appointments for athletes who love culture and for all those who, in addition to taking care of their bodies, also indulge in a little oxygen for the mind. And, along with the aforementioned five, the advice will also extend to a film that has just been released in theaters and to current exhibitions.

TUSCANY IN THE MOUTH 2024 (from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th April, The Cathedral)

The event dedicated to local cuisine returns to the classic location. A substantial number of stands where the taste buds can be stimulated and satisfied in an intense four days dedicated to characteristic flavours, traditional food and its new ways. An event that has never disappointed expectations and which can be an excellent interlude for a pleasant weekend.

TUSCANY PREVIEW DJANGO FESTIVAL 2024 (from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th April, Circolo Tafoni di San Marcello P.se)

While waiting for the official start of the music festival dedicated to Django Reinhardt (which will begin on August 21st), it is already time for previews and the first important preparatory jam sessions on the Pistoiese Mountains. Liberdjango, Tooscanians and Gianbanda will take turns on stage in these three days of beautiful music. The coolness of the altitude and the warmth of the sound that these bands will release: a captivating and unmissable mix.

DOG FESTIVAL AT SAN GIORGIO 2024 (Saturday 27 April from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, San Giorgio Library)

Man’s best friend returns to be the protagonist of the traditional party at the San Giorgio Library. An afternoon of speeches and readings, with the presence of associations such as ENPA, Differently Cuccioli and Fody Fabrics. And, obviously, four-legged friends, the main theme of the conferences which will see the participation of veterinarian Luca Balleri and the head of the National School for Guide Dogs for the Blind Lisa Pugliese.

EARTH SKY HYPERURANIUM. DUO ANTONELLO GHEZZI (Saturday 27 April at 5.30pm, ME Vannucci Gallery)

The art of Nadia Antonello and Paolo Ghezzi returns to amaze in a monographic volume capable of encompassing their extraordinary creativity and freedom. Together with art historian Lorenzo Cipriani, the duo will present the book, focusing on a vast selection of works, classic and recent: from abstracts to perspectives of the starry skies of the future. In short, a guide to travel in the imaginative world of this pair of artists.

APERITIF AT THE FARM (Sunday 28 April at 3.30pm, Azienda Agricola Ninfe di Bosco)

An aperitif and a guided tour, to discover the educational farm and milking. A day surrounded by nature that will end in a very interesting way, that is, with an aperitif right in the goat stable. For both adults and children, it is therefore an escape from the routine and a stimulating opportunity to get to know a splendid reality of the province.

CANTARMAGGIO D’ORSIGNA 2024 (Tuesday 30 April from 7pm, Orsigna)

CantarMaggio is synonymous with a popular festival and has its roots in the traditions of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
A custom that derives from the rural life of mountain communities, for which spring, and in particular the month of May, brings with it the hope of good harvests, abundance and serenity. On the night between 30 April and 1 May, the maggerini will leave from Piazza dell’Orsigna in the direction of the various villages. At each house they will sing the Song of May at the top of their lungs and whoever wants will open their home to the musicians offering them wine and some appetizers. With full bellies, the singers will leave for the next house.

CHALLENGERS BY LUCA GUADAGNINO (from Wednesday 24 April at the Cinema Multiplex Lux)

She is an ace tennis player, they are two friends trying to make it in the same sport. However, she gets injured, marries one of them and has a relationship with the other. An intense love triangle and power play featuring standout performances from Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor. FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO TO EXHIBITIONS

As written by the Municipality of Pistoia, on the weekend of the Anniversary of National Liberation, between Thursday 25th and Sunday 28th Aprilvarious opportunities to visit the Civic Museums of Pistoia, with extended opening hours, free admission and the continuation of the Spring initiatives at the museum organized by the Civic Museums.

THE Civic Museums (Civic Museum of Ancient Art in the Town Hall, Museum of the Spedale del Ceppo and Museum of the Twentieth Century and Contemporary in Palazzo Fabroni) and the show Revox by Federico Tiezzi. From Portraits of the End of the Millennium (1986) to Vasari. The Lives (2021-2023) they will be open on Thursday 25th (Liberation Day), Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April, with continuous hours from 10am to 6pm.

Thursday 25 April Entrance to the Civic Museums and the Revox exhibition is also free.
