Great enthusiasm and participation for the inauguration of the Bench of Europe which was located inside the entrance hall of the University Center of the province of Trapani. The bench was created thanks to the graphic project of the students of the 3rd E of the Graphics and Communication address of the ITT GB Amico di Trapani, led by Prof. Francesco Ducato Laudicina. About 300 young people from various educational institutions in the city of Trapani and the province were present, many citizens and authorities. “A celebratory moment – noted Prof.
Giorgio Scichilone – who must contribute to reflecting on the importance of voting in the European Parliament in the next elections of 08-09 June 2024 and on the need for the European institutions to continue working to ensure the protection of peace”. The event represented a unique opportunity for reflection and celebration of the values that unite all European citizens, promoting active and conscious participation in the democratic life of the Union also through the right/duty to vote. “European values and the role of European institutions must become a common culture of young people and citizens in order to be able to talk about participation in the democratic process of our Europe.
Active citizenship allows us to strengthen democracy and policies and the resulting laws are the result of a broader social consensus, this is the reason why this type of initiative is necessary” – these are the words of Dr. Marta Ferrantelli who adds – I thank those who worked hard to organize this meeting and in particular the guys from the ITT GBAmico of Trapani who worked with commitment and dedication on the graphic project of the bench which will allow us, every day, to remember , through the image of the European flag installed on the bench, to dialogue and discuss the general themes of European political action and, in the coming months, on the value of the vote on 8-09 June in the EP”.
The day was enriched by the extraordinary presence of Dr. Luana Moresco, president of the Megalizzi Foundation, by Dr. Alfredo Alagna consultant of the European Parliament and Dr. Carlo Corazza Director of the European Parliament in Italy. The inaugural celebration was evocative with the Hymn to Joy played by the violinists Manuel Burriesci and Gianni Burriesci and the musical interval following which Prof. Francesco Torre, President of the University Consortium of the Province of Trapani, presented the certificates of merit to two of the young people from the 3rd year of the Graphics and Communication section of the ITT GBAmico of Trapani, Greta Cusenza and Cristian Oddo, winners of the Panchina graphic project contest and the schools in the province of Trapani who stood out for having supported European communication initiatives of the Europe Direct center in Trapani Sicily, demonstrating significant sensitivity and attention to European issues. The young participants will be called to encourage a constructive debate on European values and the importance of every citizen’s contribution to the future of the Union.
