There are currently no pe elementsr talk about new Keu burial sites, at least in the territory of the municipality of Pisa. TOAt least for now. This is the outcome of a request directed to the municipality of Pisa which in the early afternoon of May 6th was presented at question time by the councilor of the radical left list “A City in CommonFrancesco Auletta.

“Taking into account the news – said Auletta – that there are other sites in our region polluted by keu, in addition to those already detected and that the news was confirmed by the regional environmental councilor herself Monia Monniwhich confirmed that there are other contaminated sites and that investigations are underway by the competent authorities, we believe it is the time to clarify and try to understand whether in Pisa, in addition to the two sites already known at the military airport and the former Vacis there is something of which the municipality has been made aware.”

The question refers to the fact that there arethere are approximately 60 sites currently monitored by the competent authorities in which potentially there could have been contamination by Keu, the waste material from tanning production in the Santa Croce sull’Arno district which ended up at the center of the investigation by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Florence and of the process of the same name which will hold the next hearing on 10 May, where requests for incorporation as a civil party of numerous bodies and organizations will have to be examined (including the municipality of Pisa and the “Pisa in Comune” association, linked precisely to the Pisan civic list).

The environmental councilor of the municipality of Pisa responded Giulia Gambini, who underlined how “at the moment the municipal administration has not received any news of additional sites in the municipal territory compared to the places already known, with respect to which the municipality immediately took action to protect the health of citizens and the environment”. “I want to remind you – added the councilor – that the municipal administration has never underestimated the Keu issue, for which we have autonomously and independently allocated 600 thousand euros to arrange for the removal of this material at the former Vacis. At the moment we have no official communication and no direct involvement regarding the municipality. Obviously there are ongoing investigations linked to the process in which the administration has already been established as a civil party. Investigation which means that at the moment these sites are not yet officially communicated. The only thing that we are also aware of are the same vague and indefinite statements given to the newspapers by the regional councilor”.

“A situation that is anything but comforting – Auletta commented in response –. I think so too that the methods and form used by Councilor Monni to communicate on such an issue are absolutely unacceptable. You can’t leave everything hanging so lightly. We hope as soon as possible, that the municipal administration will be involved and in turn will want to maintain maximum transparency on this issue of absolute importance for all of us”.
