CATANZARO From Calabria to Abruzzo. Melonian platoon marching towards Pescara, the programmatic conference of the Brothers of Italy which from today until Sunday will bring the whole party to Abruzzo, mobilized in support of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who will conclude the convention and – according to several analysts – should announce her entry into the field personally at the European Championships. The one in Pescara is the opportunity to underline the goodness of the government action at Palazzo Chigi but above all the launch of Fratelli d’Italia in the electoral campaign: “Italy changes Europe”, is the title of the conference in Abruzzo but more prosaically it will also be the “deadline” for defining the applications, and also for this reason the big names of Fratelli d’Italia Calabria – led by the regional coordinator Wanda FerroUndersecretary of the Interior – sI am “prescribed” and mobilize for the Abruzzo event. The focus, in truth, will be on the “post”, the appendix of the convention, on Sunday, at the end of the event after the speech of the leader Meloni.
The post-convention
In fact, the program reads “National Assembly and National Management” of FdI: in more prosaic and concise terms, the tables at which the candidates for the European elections will be decided. As for Calabriaat the moment there are certainties, almost certainties and unknowns: among the certainties, the reconfirmation of the candidacy of the outgoing Denis Nescinow official, in the South constituency, and the reconfirmation of the other outgoing one Vincenzo Sofoeven if in another college. The almost certainty is the candidacy of the president of the first Commission of the Regional Council, Luciana De Francesco, whose entry into the field until a few weeks ago was considered subordinate to Meloni’s non-candidacy but is now given by sources within the party as increasingly concrete in any case, even in the case of the premier’s entry into the field. And the unknowns? Essentially, the contribution that will be requested from the Melonians of Calabria. In general should be of the order of two candidatesand in this case the games would be closed, but in the end, in the “game” of weight between the regions a third name may also be required. A prospect which obviously and understandably is not particularly exciting but in FdI if the party – i.e. Meloni – calls, saying no is a bit difficult. Sources within Fratelli d’Italia report that the national leaders of the party have already asked for various availability, including those of the senator Fausto Orsomarso and probably other institutional representatives such as councilors and regional councillors. On Sunday everyone could know their fate. Certainly, everyone in the election campaign will be called to give their all, whether candidates or not. Because obviously the Fratelli d’Italia challenge is doubly demanding, because the European Championships are a government coupon nationally, and more humbly, also of the party’s action in Calabria and in the majority that supports the Occhiuto Council. The precedent from five years ago in the region reports a 10.26% for Fratelli d’Italia which signaled a growing trend in Calabria, and in fact at the 2022 elections the percentage has risen to 19%, and therefore the vote in June will have a clear meaning for Calabrian Melonians because it will measure the direction of the approval trend: whether it is increasing or decreasing. And the outcome will not be absolutely indifferent, especially after the elections, when the Citadel could be there a review of the structures of the regional council and remembering that Fratelli d’Italia has been asking governor Occhiuto for greater weight since September, at least in terms of delegations.
