AVEZZANO – Fucino Half Marathon and Stracittadina di Avezzano will have a new look for an important and common goal which will have its highlight on Sunday 28 April in the Marsican city.
A long-developed project to add celebration within the celebration thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of the organizers of the UISP Provincial Committee of L’Aquila and the Asd Stracittadina of Avezzano to fit into the wonderful context of Avezzano, City of Culture in Movementa happening dedicated to the promotion of sport, culture, music and entertainment with the relevant associations involved, a few days before the start of the stage of the Giro d’Italia.
The Fucino Half Marathon is run over a distance of 21,097 kilometers starting at 10:00 from Piazza Risorgimento on a round trip route, closed to vehicular traffic, between Avezzano and Borgo Ottomila to return to the Marsican city centre.
“Fortified by last year’s experience – explains the lawyer Liberato Taglieri on behalf of the entire UISP L’Aquila provincial committee – the Fucino Half Marathon was inserted in the context of Avezzano City of Culture and Movement to support the holding of the Stracittadina of Avezzano with its homonymous Asd chaired by Antonella Di Carlo. As UISP L’Aquila, we have mobilized all our companies in the Marsican area who will give us support in the technical-organizational part of the half marathon. We also have synergies with some important companies in Rome, in particular the ASD Piano ma Arriviamo which will take care of the pacemaker service to have the reference of the times. For both the half and stracittadina, the trend is growing and we have extended the registration deadline until Thursday 25th April. All participants will have a race pack with a bag and a pink t-shirt with the logos of the two events and also that of the Giro d’Italia as a tribute to the Corsa Rosa which will return as the starting point on May 12th of the stage which will arrive in Naples. In addition, each participant will receive a finisher’s medal.”.
The start of the Stracittadina di Avezzano is also set at 10:00 in memory of Remo De Angelis, Pietro Lisciani and Mario Sbardella. The highlight race is the 10 kilometer competitive one valid for the Trofeo Nazionale Libertas and Corri Marsica UISP circuits, in addition to the combination with the National Road Running Championship reserved for the Local Police Forces of Italy (in collaboration with the Gruppo Sportivo Polizia Local City of Avezzano).
At the same time start of the non-competitive 3.3 kilometers which corresponds to a lap of the 10 kilometers in collaboration with LILT and also of the Gusta Longa in collaboration with Cucina975 – D&S. Within the Stracittadina of Avezzano, space for competitions for children (at 9:00) with the organization shared with Asd Pucetta and Avezzano Calcio.
Thus Antonella Di Carlo on behalf of the organizing committee of the Asd Stracittadina of Avezzano: “The event, in addition to offering the city of Avezzano moments of fun, recreation and above all sport, also has a charitable purpose because we will donate the proceeds from registrations to LILT. Furthermore, it is an inclusive event because, thanks to the joelettes of Appennini For All, children with motor disabilities will be able to participate and they will be the ones to open the races together with the Amici di Denis association. We will do many things to entertain the little ones, we will pay homage to our territory with the pasta party and the many food and wine tastings with Gusta Longa. The highlight will be at the end of all the races with the Equipe 84 concert”.
For next Sunday everyone is running and doing sports to spend a different Sunday than usual and also to reclaim the spaces of their city without the noise of traffic!
