Bari, Di Venere hospital “takes too long” to discharge her son: woman beats two nurses

BARI – Yet another attack yesterday afternoon against two nurses in the emergency room of the Di Venere hospital. The operators, recoverable with a prognosis of 15 and 10 days, were physically attacked by a user while waiting for her son’s discharge: a wait that was prolonged – as far as we could reconstruct – due to the simultaneous arrival of red codes which involved emergency room staff. The State Police was promptly alerted and intervened on the scene with a patrol car.

The General Management of ASL Bari expresses total closeness and solidarity to the healthcare workers who were victims of the attack and strongly condemns yet another act perpetrated against staff in the exercise of their duties and to the detriment of the community, as it causes the interruption of a public service .

The ASL Bari, as in previous episodes, is alongside the operators by making its legal office available to them; at the same time, the health company stigmatizes a certain “malpractice” according to which waiting in the emergency room, often at the origin of unpleasant episodes, would be a simple waste of time instead of the necessary clinical fulfillment connected to the general priority of the cases . It is not superfluous to remember that the Legislative Decree of 19 March 2024 n. came into force on 4 April. 31 by virtue of which it is possible to proceed ex officio even in the case of personal injuries to healthcare professionals, regardless of the severity of the injury, slight, serious or very serious, and the victim’s willingness to file a complaint.

Furthermore, the law which has strengthened the fight against episodes of violence for injuries caused to personnel carrying out a healthcare profession in the exercise or due to the functions or service has already been in force for a year: this type of aggression, in fact, can lead to imprisonment from two to five years, which can be increased to ten if the injuries are “serious” and up to sixteen if “very serious”.
