Bologna doesn’t dream big

If that wasn’t enough Bologna City 30, with all the transport slowdowns, controversies, discussions, Bologna is now experiencing a new emergency that paralyzes traffic, preventing cars, buses, motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians from moving around the city in humane terms. The Municipality carries out the tram project and the Rhine Canal intervention. You don’t need to be a genius to understand that two such invasive interventions cannot travel at the same time while you take away parking spaces and traffic goes crazy. There are those who respond to complaints in the Municipality that it is a misperception.

Beppe Boni responds

Everyone has their own perception of reality. Possible and legitimate. The objective facts are another thing. Some choices such as the uncovering of the canal in via Riva Reno e the elimination of over two hundred parking spaces (which are already in short supply in Bologna) close to the historic center have aroused the irritation of most citizens. An aspect that has been taken little into account. The ban on speeds exceeding 30 per hour in 70% of the urban area is opposed by the majority of residents and of those who frequent Bologna for work. And besides, the ban is little respected because driving at 30 per hour is objectively difficult. If we then add i Passante construction sites and the modification of part of the traffic in the center for the restoration of the Garisenda Tower it is easy to see that there is a lot of confusion. Regardless of the opinion on the individual interventions, it is surprising lack of foresight of those who, within the municipal council, did not understand that the concomitance of all these operations would cause chaos and inconvenience. Let’s add, just to complete the scenario, that the People movers, the shuttle that connects the airport and the station (very expensive) runs intermittently. Moral: Bologna dreams of being a city with a European dimension but does not yet know how to think big.
