Descriptive text here

The weekend which greets the end of April, accompanied by a sharp drop in temperatures, brings with it jazz musical atmospheres, references to cinema through the art of posters and the traditional Homage to the Duke on the theme of the Palio, a container of different suggestions, which intends to leave out gastronomic events.

The festivals are back

The Mesola Asparagus Fair reaches its thirty-second edition this year and offers on the weekend food stands and events dedicated to the main vegetable of the spring period, from risotto to tagliatelle. There are also numerous tourist-cultural events, concerts, shows, the amusement park and much more.

Until Sunday in Comacchio there is the eighth edition of the Marinated Fish Festival with tastings, market, workshops and guided tours to celebrate an ancient tradition, with activities and initiatives that promote marinated meat, an excellent product of the Comacchio Valleys. The tastings at the Manifattura take center stage with the food stand open for lunch (12-2.30pm) and dinner (7-9.30pm).

It’s not a real festival, but it’s close. We are talking about the initiative ‘The taverns in the shadow of the bell tower’ organized by Borgo San Giorgio district near the basilica of the same name: events, music, shows and above all good food.

And to then get rid of a few accumulated kilos, still within the events for the patron saint of Ferrara, the traditional Walk to San Zorz: 6.5 kilometers within reach with every step.

Claudio Bisio at the Comunale

From Friday to Sunday Claudio Bisio arrives at the Teatro Comunale with ‘My life told badly’, directed by Giorgio Gallione and lyrics by Francesco Piccolo. The story of a life like that of each of us, suspended between mistakes and intuitions. A monologue structured as a wicked and hilarious ping-pong between public and private life, real and fictional, it poorly recounts, in music and words, everything that by choice or by chance contributes to making us what we are. The attempt to go through a person’s life, a life in general, funny, melancholic, in which every spectator can identify.

Music at the Torrione, at the Spirito or under the Skyscraper

The menu of Jazz Club this weekend offers: on Friday the saxophonist and composer Lorenzo Simoni on stage with his stable quartet, on Saturday great anticipation for the delicate and sensual atmospheres of the duo formed by Gretchen Parlato and Lionel Loueke, on Sunday finally we play at home with the Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra.

Still jazz, but this time we go to the Alto Ferrara area, and more precisely to Spirit of Vigarano Mainarda: the concert entitled ‘Essentially Ellington’ is scheduled for Saturday evening. April 29th Duke Ellington 125th Birthday’. The group Mmq led by Marco Marzola together with Tony Kofi will perform.

Same day and same time, but under the skyscraper Real Timpani arrives from Ferrara, an Italian band made up of Jacopo Biffi (electronics), Pietro Vicentini (drums) and Matteo Pontegavelli (trumpet). Giulia Guerra takes care of their sound and produces them. Their music is a mix of electronic, jazz and ambient, highly evocative, almost an obsessive and hypnotic mantra.

Black on white

It’s not a concert, but we always talk about music in a meeting scheduled at the School of Modern Music with Marco Denti and Mauro Zambellini. The protagonist of the appointment is Tom Pettyan icon for entire generations of musicians, to whom the two authors have dedicated a volume that reveals previously unpublished details of his career and life, offering a complete portrait of this extraordinary artist.

Homage to the Duke: it’s San Paolo’s turn

We are at the end of the various performances of the Homage to the Duke. This Sunday at 11 in Piazza Castello it is the turn of the Rione San Paolo which will bring the figure of Isabella d’Este. Isabella was already recognized in her time as a woman who was very skilled in her role and a great innovator. She took great care of her appearance and, with the invention of the hairdress, she managed to launch a fashion that was soon copied by other courts.

The weekend exhibitions

Until Sunday, at the Cloister of San Paolo in the former Refectory Hall, the Ferrara section of the Italian Alpine Club is staging the exhibition ‘Senza Posa. Italy K2 by Mario Fantin – Story of a feat’. This is a traveling exhibition, owned by the Italian Alpine Club, created to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of first ascent of K2 of the Italian mountaineering expedition directed by Ardito Desio.

The two proposals of ‘Ferrara La Città del Cinema’ for the weekend talk about cinema, posters and billboards. Friday and Saturday in Migliarino there is ‘Symeoni Festival’, while on Sunday at 10am the first of a series of guided visits to the permanent exhibitions ‘Vancini Manifesto’ and ’80 Ossessione’ will be held, set up within the spaces of the former fire station of Ferrara, now managed by the Factory consortium Firedamp. The ‘Florestan Vancini’ School of Cinematographic Arts is also located in the building.

And to conclude…

And he fell on the snow
at his friend’s feet
and the moon also fell
in the bloody forest
two trees blossomed,
near the cemetery.
The flowers were red
they bloomed in winter.
The night was clear,
the moon a great light,
Euryalus and Nisus went out
from the field towards the river.

(Euryalus and Nisus, Gang)
