“Supporting Giangrandi is a courageous choice”

The electoral campaign in Cesena is preparing to enter its key phase. On Monday morning, in the headquarters of Marco Giangrandi’s committee in Corso Mazzini, the 23 candidates of Italia Viva were revealed, the only political party within the civic hub made up of Cesena Sia Noi and Cambiamo.

The symbol presented features the words “Italia Viva – Cesena al Centro”, Senator Silvia Fregolent, the regional president of Italia Viva Stefano Mazzetti, the provincial president Tommaso Pirini and the territorial president of Cesena Andrea Guiduzzi, explained the reasons for supporting Giangrandi, also present at the Corso Mazzini headquarters.

Guiduzzi broke the ice: “In Cesena we confirm that Italia Viva does not adopt choices made from above but believes in the fundamental freedom of this project. We believe in a Europe which offers many opportunities and we carry forward our popular, liberal, democratic and moderates, we want politics to be about meeting and debate, we keep away from ferocious clashes of an ideological nature”. Mazzetti added: “This Cesena challenge is certainly not an easy one, congratulations to Giangrandi who puts his face to it. Ours is a courageous choice and we are convinced that we can achieve a good result. We are carrying forward our method which is to check the mayoral candidates and the programmes, in Forlì for example we support the outgoing centre-right mayoral candidate. We listen a lot to our local representatives because they have an eye on the situation.”

Then the Turin senator Fregolent spoke: “It was right to put our symbol in the electoral list that supports Giangrandi, we don’t hide, civility is important, but political parties are also important, and we believe in the strength of parties. We want to take away votes from populists and sovereignists because they represent bad politics. Politics is not ‘yes or no’, politics is compromise which is not a bad word.” Then a jab at Elly Schlein who declared that she supported the CGIL referendum against the Jobs Act wanted by Matteo Renzi: “It’s a scam that Elly Schlein uses to say ‘I am with the people’. In the framework of the Jobs Act we there are many delegated decrees, tell us what they want to touch on.”

Tommaso Pirini instead underlined that Italia Viva’s policy is “dialogue and ideas, we must chisel out political decisions for the good of the territory and not driven by ideologies. We think and hope to be an added value in this coalition. It is essential to connect the choices such as those on infrastructure in the vast Romagna area”. Pirini, who is also president of the Valle Savio district, added: “Another fundamental theme is that of high speed which must connect Romagna to Bologna, Milan and Europe”. Then another jab at the ‘kitchen cabinet’: “It is right that the funds are spent but politics has the task of identifying the priorities well.”

Marco Giangrandi’s speech closed the debate: “Italia Viva in Cesena has made the bravest choice among all the lists that present themselves at these administrative elections. Perhaps it would have been more convenient to enter the broad field, what I call ‘campo santo ‘, Cesena lacks debate, ours is a moderate project, I am a moderate open to dialogue with everyone. It is right that even a civic coalition like ours has some reference at a national level , must be completely revised, the politics of skills must be put at the center because politicians pass away, but managers in administrations remain”. On the flood: “We have suffered the third world catastrophe, we must work hard to find solutions, there can be no divisions on this. We must invest money in the maintenance of the territory, this thing should not even be discussed after what we have experienced. In the last twenty years, and before the Pnrr, the most important project of the Municipality concerned the redevelopment of Piazza della Libertà, this makes us understand how small we are and how much we need a connection with Europe”. “Ours is a policy of proposals – concluded Giangrandi – not of demagogy, we will leave a 35-page program available to the city”.
