The new Italian champions Inter, in addition to celebrating the twentieth scudetto which is worth the second star on the shirt, will inaugurate the first referee designation which gives a men’s Serie A match with three female referees, an all-female referee trio. In fact, the thirty-three year old from Livorno will be leading the meeting Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi who will be supported by assistants Francesca Di Monte and Tiziana Trasciatti.
The three are no strangers to ending up in the annals of football in the records section, because they are the same ones who directed the 26 December 2022 Frosinone-Ternana in Serie B and the 17 January 2023 Napoli-Cremonese, the quarter-final of the Italian Cup. Ferrieri Caputi was also the first female referee to referee a Serie A match (Sassuolo-Salernitana 5-0), it was October 2022.
Who is Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi
The Inter-Torino referee began his climb to the men’s Serie A in November 2015, when he refereed a Serie D match, Levico-Atletico San Paolo. Like her colleagues, Maria Ferrieri Caputi does not live from football alone. She is also employed in a labor law study centre researcher at the University of Bergamo. Maria graduated in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Pisa and in Sociology from the University of Florence.

Business consultant, Francesca has a degree in Law. He has been an assistant referee since 2002 and made his debut in Serie A on 27 October 2022 in the Udinese-Verona match. He is one of the match directors included by FIFA in the list for the Paris Olympics. She is from Abruzzo and is registered with the AIA in the Chieti section.
Who is Tiziana Trasciatti
Born in Foligno, she made her Serie A debut on 9 November 2022 in Fiorentina-Salernitana. Among her most important experiences are the qualifications for the 2025 Women’s European Championships.

The all-female referee designation for Inter-Torino is a further step towards true gender equality in football. For now, the female referee who has been assigned the most important match is the Frenchwoman Stephanie Frappartwho during the World Championship in Qatar directed (very well) Germany-Costa Rica.
