Efrem Montefioritwenty-four year old Casaletto Vaprio, is the new sacristan of the Cathedral. It happens at Marco Nichettiwho in turn took over in January following the retirements of Ivan Martinenghi And Francesco Ghisetti, historic collaborators of the Cathedral. His employment relationship began yesterday morning, with the opening of the church and the service at the Chapter Mass presided over by the Bishop.
He is the winner of the call published by the Cathedral Church body last month: unexpectedly, despite the plurality of skills required, around thirty candidates from all over Italy had responded. Efrem, trained as a professional carpenter, has a particular passion for the care of the church: he naturally carries out the tasks of the professional profile required by the Cathedral and, moreover, he is also able to accompany liturgical songs on the organ, as well as carry out the small but frequent maintenance required by the complex’s buildings.
“From the age of eight – this is what he wrote in the motivational letter sent to the Cathedral – I began to assist Don Achille Viviani as an altar boy during the celebrations in the parish. From that moment on I had two great passions: the sacristy and the bells”.
So, now, Efrem seems to have fulfilled his dream, always confided in the presentation text: to make this his passion “a job, in the most important church of the diocese”
. The selection, according to the announcement, consisted of two different phases: the screening of the CVs received and a personal interview. In his case, there were two “face to face meetings”: one with the president of the Cathedral’s Board of Directors, a lawyer Marcello Palmieriand another with the president of the Cathedral Chapter, Don Ersilio Ogliari. The impressions gathered were shared by the organisation’s Board of Directors, which then voted on the hiring unanimously.
The Cathedral is currently committed to Efrem for three months. If everything goes well, the contract – again as foreseen in the announcement – will become indefinite.
