Street parade, 4 reported: volunteers cleaned up

The street parade that a week ago had filled the streets of Como with young people, with a large group of young people – around 2400 – who had crossed the center with trucks and music from the afternoon until the night, did not pass without its aftermath. Already in recent days, residents – especially in the Ippocastano and Dadone area, but not only – had reported defacements and writings on the walls, vandalism that had defaced properties in the area in conjunction with the departure and passage of the procession.

During the parade the Digos men – officers from the Police Headquarters, but also from the local police and the Carabinieri were present at the parade – had filmed everything that was happening, with video cameras which were then examined. Spray cans also ended up in the hands of the officers, which were seized and were gradually taken away from the hands of the young people.

The accusations

Now, less than a week later, the Como Police Headquarters presents the account of four boys – among the participants in the parade – reported for defacement and soiling. Those affected by the report sent to the Como Prosecutor’s Office had all come from outside. This is a 20-year-old boy from Milan, a 21-year-old resident in Bergamo and two 25-year-olds, the first from Pavia and the second from Bologna.

It is not known which of the vandalisms recorded during the parade were attributed to them, given that the video footage taken by the police and the Digos had taken place both in the Ippocastano square and in Piazza della Tessitrice, and during the parade which had descended from via Sirtori and then take via Nazario Sauro (where the seizure of a spray can had taken place) to continue up to the stadium passing through the center to return from viale Varese reaching the starting point again.

More numerous than expected

A procession that began just before 6pm and ended well after 10pm. Many young people were present, more than expected, with a number that had further expanded during the parade, with five trucks and vans playing music to loud volume surrounded by young people dancing.

However, someone went beyond having fun and dancing, defacing the things he encountered along the way and now remedying these complaints on the loose. Many streets were affected, although the most important (and disheartening) vandalism was undoubtedly that done to the city walls near via Diaz on the Porta Torre side. Nothing had been spared, not even the Municipality itself. The volunteers of Per Como Pulita, in the last few hours, have already started to clean the walls of the first writings, operations that will continue also next weekend and on May 1st.
