“Senseless protest. What does Palestine have to do with it?”

First the protest by a group of demonstrators who praised Palestine and who wanted to join the commemoration in Piazza IV Novembre, then the procession together with the political institutions of the area and finally the heartfelt speech from the stage in Piazza Cavour. For Tamara Ferretti, president of the Anpi (National Association of Partisans of Italy) of Ancona, the 79th anniversary of the Liberation and April 25th was full of sensations. Walking along Viale della Vittoria, singing to the tune of ‘Bella Ciao’ by the Torrette band, Ferretti returns to the Passetto protest: “Today must remain the celebration of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism and nothing else. I had already expressed myself in this way. sense and for me it is as valid yesterday as it is today – explains Ferretti – That protest, among other things carried out by a small group of people, did not undermine the importance of this special day lived together with all the people of Ancona who come together around April 25th and is not divided. I really don’t understand what protesting for Palestine has to do with today when we are celebrating an anniversary 79 years ago.”

The celebrations for April 25th in Ancona were quite agitated for Ferretti. Yesterday the protest and the accusations directed against her by left-wing movements, last Saturday the harsh face-to-face with a former member of the ANPI, present yesterday at the demonstration, guilty of having sparked a political controversy which he said was useless. The man had criticized the speech of the municipal councilor for educational policies, Antonella Andreoli (Lega), for not having made any reference to anti-fascism in her speech that day. At the end of the event, Ferretti lashed out forcefully against the citizen, openly criticizing her choice.

Returning to yesterday’s day of celebration, Tamara Ferretti took the floor immediately after the brief, but applauded, speech by the mayor of Ancona, starting and concluding the rally with ‘Long live Ancona, Long live the Constitution, Long live April 25th’: “Between June and September 1944 fought for the liberation of the Marche region, including the city of Ancona. And in fact on 18 July we will celebrate the 80th anniversary of Ancona being liberated from the Nazi-fascist forces and their fascist associates of the Social Republic – recalled the president Anpi. who then spoke of the central figure of Sandro Pertini, partisan and former president of the Republic – From Radio Milano Libera the Socialist Partisan Sandro Pertini called for an insurrection and a general strike. Listen to his voice, the words of those who suffered exile and the violence makes one’s skin crawl: ‘Place the Germans with the dilemma: surrender or perish!’ broadcast by Pertini on the radio on the morning of April 25, 1945. It was a day of great celebration then, as we want it to be the same today”.

The day of celebration ended in the afternoon with the traditional concert at the Teatro delle Muse. The Walk of the Resistance, from Sappanico to Piano, has been confirmed for next Sunday (departure by bus from Piazza Ugo Bassi at 8.45).
