“Unjustifiable price increase. And the service is poor”

Everyone against the new waste tax sting. The Municipality of Rimini has decided to increase the Tari by 4.15, with councilor Juri Magrini claiming the administration’s commitment “to limit the increase in the tariff”. Which “could have been even higher” since Atersir (the Emilia Romagna territorial agency for water and waste services) has redefined the economic-financial plan and established a tariff increase of almost 5 percent (4.96 to be precise) compared to the revenues ascertained in 2023. “We managed to limit the increase – explained Magrini – thanks to the resources recovered from the fight against tax evasion”.

An explanation that does not hold up, according to Forza Italia, which through the deputy Rosaria Tassinari has already presented a question to the ministry of the environment, regarding the increases in the waste tax in Rimini, Cesena and Ravenna. And for trade associations the fact that the increase could have been higher is certainly no consolation. “The waste tax is growing, but the services are not. There is something not right…”, attacks Patrizia Rinaldis, president of Federalberghi. You who, first of all, take issue with the authorities who regulate tariffs. “It is Arera (the national regulatory authority for energy, networks and the environment) and Atersir who establish the tariffs on the basis of the principle of environmental protection. But it is not clear by what criteria these reckless increases are decided. The waste tax will now increase by 4.15 percent, but next year, from the news we read, we risk a further double-digit increase. How will families and businesses cope with these increases? Rinaldis rattles off the figures for her hotel. “For my hotel, which has 30 rooms and is only open three months a year, I paid 12 thousand euros in waste tax last year. How much will I have to pay this year? And in 2025?”. For Rinaldis it is necessary “to act on the authorities that regulate the tariffs. But she has already spoken to Magrini to evaluate the possibility of changing the regulation on the waste tax for seasonal activities”.

Not even Gianni Indino, the president of Confcommercio, makes any concessions: “No one likes tax increases. They like them even less when the increases do not correspond to an improvement in service. In Rimini numerous bars and restaurants complain about the insufficient level of waste collection Dirty, smelly vehicles that carry out their work at times that are incompatible with the catering service. The only positive note is the fact that elsewhere in Emilia Romgna the increase in the waste tax will, in some cases, exceed 9.5. percent. Here in Rimini there will be an increase but it will be a little more limited, thanks to the activity to combat tax evasion”. And for Mirco Pari, director of Confesercenti, this is the path that the Municipality of Rimini must continue to follow to contain the waste tax. “A tax increase is never a pleasure. We appreciate the effort made by the administration to limit the increase. We hope that the Municipality will continue the fight against tax evasion in an increasingly intense manner, so as to be able to guarantee greater fairness”.
