Legami-Municipality of Bergamo, pact to give new life to stationery in schools

Bergamo. Legami SpA Società Benefit, in collaboration with the Municipality of Bergamo, launches “Saurits for the Planet – New life for finished stationery”, the first project of its kind in Italy which will focus on educating young people on the concept of the circular economy.

The idea is simple, but profound: transform the old into new, teaching students from the 12 high schools involved the value of plastic, a precious resource that can live multiple lives if properly managed and recycled.

The initiative, which will start on May 6th and will last six months, involves over 11 thousand students. It presents itself as a recycling competition, but in reality it is much more, it is an educational opportunity that challenges young people to think sustainably.

The school that stands out not only for the volume of material collected, but also for the precision in differentiating the components, will have the opportunity to make a short film on sustainability, a true testimony of their commitment to the planet.

Giorgio Gori, mayor of Bergamo, enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, highlighting the city’s constant commitment to improving waste management and promoting innovative solutions for protecting the environment. The project aligns perfectly with the Climate City Contracta pact to reduce CO2 emissions by 2030, and the mayor of Bergamo hopes that other local companies will follow Legami’s example in their commitment to the environment.

“Improving separate waste collection is a central objective for the Bergamo Administration. In recent years the city has proven to be one of the most advanced Italian and European capitals in terms of the collection, disposal and re-use of waste, not only reaching the 80% share of separate waste collection, but working on solutions innovative to reduce the quantity of waste produced and to reuse waste by producing energy and heat to power the city’s district heating network. In the coming years we expect a further leap forward, also thanks to the funding obtained from the Pnrr to implement new projects regarding urban waste, but also thanks to initiatives such as those of Legami, a private company in our territory which is very sensitive to environmental issues and related to sustainability. The recovery and new life project for the rigid plastic of stationery will involve 12 schools in the Municipality of Bergamo and fits perfectly into the Climate City Contract program, i.e. the pact that the territory of Bergamo has signed to reduce the production of CO2 and improve the environment between now and 2030. The hope is that other local businesses and companies will follow the example of Legami and the other private entities that have signed Bergamo’s commitment in the near future, building an increasingly extensive and therefore effective for improving the environment we live in”.

Maximum of Water, Managing Director Legami, highlighted the very essence of sustainability in the company’s DNA, hoping that this project can inspire and promote the birth of other similar initiatives throughout Italy: “The sustainable approach is in Legami’s DNA, since birth of the brand. As a Benefit Company, we believe in the crucial importance of involving the new generations, who are already well disposed towards paying attention to the values of sustainability. This is where the circular economy project was born that we are launching today in the schools of Bergamo. A first step that we hope will soon expand to other cities in Italy.”

The contribution of the technical partners, Aprica SpA, which operates in integrated waste management, and Montello SpA, specialized in the recovery and recycling of plastic and organic materials, will be fundamental to the success of the initiative.

At a time when sustainability is at the center of attention, “Esauriti for the Planet” represents a significant step towards a greener and more responsible future, testifying to Bergamo’s concrete commitment towards a healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations .
