Foggia, 24 April 2024 – The Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, chaired by the Prefect of Foggia, Maurizio Valiante, met yesterday, 23 April, giving the green light to the projects for the implementation of video surveillance systems, financed with funds from the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior dated 20 December 2023.
A total of sixteen projects were presented by the following municipalities: Alberona, Casalnuovo Monterotaro, Castelluccio Valmaggiore, Castelnuovo della Daunia, Cerignola, Ischitella, Lucera, Manfredonia, Orsara di Puglia, Rocchetta Sant’Antonio, San Giovanni Rotondo, San Nicandro Garganico, San Paolo di Civitate, Torremaggiore, Vico del Gargano, and by the Union of Municipalities of the Five Royal Sites.
The projects, already technically approved by the TLC Zone of the Bari State Police, have now also received the favorable opinion of the Provincial Committee and will be immediately transmitted to the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior for the definitive assessment of eligibility for financing.
Prefect Valiante underlined the importance of equipping municipalities and inter-municipal areas with video surveillance systems, seen as an essential tool in deterring widespread and predatory crime in the province. He praised the work done by the Municipalities in formulating the projects and appreciated the sensitivity shown by the Mayors regarding security issues in the area.
The projects include the installation of new urban video surveillance systems, which will be added to the existing ones, allowing the Police Forces to constantly monitor and coordinate the area, as well as to intervene in a more targeted and rapid way in combating illicit activities.
These electronic eyes will also provide important support for the investigative activities of the judicial police and in general for crime prevention and repression actions, to protect the safety of the territory and citizens.
The promotion of integrated actions regarding urban security, the strengthening of video control systems and the collaboration with local police forces will further contribute to the effectiveness of prevention and territorial control strategies.
