An all-female referee team for Inter-Torino

Next Sunday San Siro will not only host the Inter celebration celebrating its fresh Scudetto but also a hymn to football experienced entirely by women. Inter-Torino scheduled at 12.30 will in fact be the first match in Serie A directed by a refereeing team made up of only women. In fact, Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi was called to direct the race, assisted by line judges Francesca Di Monte and Tiziana Trasciatti. Ferrieri Caputi, a 33-year-old from Livorno of Apulian origins, after obtaining a three-year degree in political science in Pisa, obtained a master’s degree in sociology in Florence. She currently works in a private center as a researcher in international labor studies. In a recent interview, speaking about how he fights pre-match tension, Ferrieri Caputi had said that he is committed to leaving nothing to chance, «studying the teams, their tactics, the characteristics of the players» despite the awareness that the mistake sooner or then it can happen and therefore trusting in the psychological support of the VAR (electronic instrumentation that allows you to resolve many doubts). You took charge of your first Serie A match on 2 October 2022: a Sassuolo-Salernitana match ended 5-0 for the hosts, awarding a penalty and giving two yellow cards, one for each side. Among her records is also having refereed a men’s match between national teams, to be precise on 25 March 2023 the Germany-Peru friendly.

Two months earlier, on 17 January Ferrieri Caputi had led an all-female team in the match valid for the round of 16 of the Italian Cup: Napoli-Cremonese. With her Francesca Di Monte and Tiziana Trasciatti, that is, the same collaborators as next Sunday. In particular, Di Monte, a 40-year-old from Abruzzo, has a degree in Law and works as a business consultant. Trasciatti, 38 years old, from Foligno in Umbria, works as a lawyer.

It will therefore be Ferrieri Caputi’s final whistle on Sunday that will trigger the Inter celebration which will then, with the players aboard an open-top bus, color the streets of central Milan black and blue.
