MESSINA – Troubled season that ends with the most beautiful and desirable happy ending. In the double derby play-off to save the category, Team Volley Messina prevails over Trinisi Pace del Mela, winning the right to play in the men’s Serie C tournament again next season.
Coach Peppe Caravello’s boys, fresh from the good performance seasoned by the victory of the “PalaMarconi” of Pace del Mela obtained the previous week (1-3: 23-25, 16-25, 25-19, 21-25), prevail also in the return match, played in front of the usual large crowd at the “PalaJuvara”. This time, however, with a little more suffering, considering the match only ended with a tie-break, after five exciting and tight partial matches. The final result was 3-2 (28-26, 16-25, 28-30, 25-14, 15-13) which rewarded the club from Messina, condemning the Tyrrhenian team to the play-offs so as not to be relegated.
President Siracusa: “We will come out stronger. Continue like this”
The president is unable to veil his joy any further Carmelo Siracusa: “Satisfaction with the goal achieved. We know very well that maintaining the category by focusing on the technical and mental growth of our youngest boys was a gamble. But we strongly believe in what we do, in the validity and development of our project; therefore, it was easy to bet and we were right. This gives the company even more strength to continue along this line.”
The match report
As already mentioned, the return match was characterized by the great intensity of play by both teams. Balance in the 1st, 3rd and 5th sets, while the partial scores of the 2nd and 4th made the difference.
First set point by point until the final advantages, where Team Volley kicked into high gear. In the second, a noticeable technical and mental decline of the young red and whites, with Trinisi able to lead the part to the end without major difficulties. The third set begins with a significant advantage for Team Volley. The Messina team looked like they could easily bring home the result but, with a surge of pride, coach Trifiletti’s boys managed to take the lead. After two set points wasted by the hosts, the guests reversed the score, forcing Team Volley to chase. In the fourth set, however, Caravello’s “terrible” boys started with greater competitive energy and a considerable advantage immediately at the start (8-0); despite the guests’ good will to react, the Messina team managed to maintain their considerable advantage, without giving their opponents the chance to get closer, winning a set and safety. The fifth set is played only to complete the match and the two coaches decide to send the members of the teams kept on the bench in the first part of the match on the taraflex. The final 15-13 further certifies the right to celebrate two successes and consequent deserved salvation.
Coach Caravello: “There are six under 19s in the team”
“Personally, I only indicated a path to follow – these are the coach’s first words Peppe Caravello at the end of the match. The guys did well in following it as faithfully as possible. The thing that gives me hope for the future is the considerable margin for improvement available. Obviously, now we want to continue with the youth line. Indeed, we will delve further into our youth sector, trying to bring out some other elements that can grow rapidly.”
