“Then those who are in government and should have sworn to an anti-fascist Constitution find it difficult to call themselves anti-fascist – which means he is fascistbecause either one or the other – it seems disturbing to me.” The historian Alessandro Barbero spoke like this a few days ago. A phrase that, at this point, also fits perfectly the councilor and secretary of the Fratelli d’Italia club of Venaria Giuseppe di Bella.
After the celebrations for April 25th the member of Fabio Giulivi’s council let himself go in a long post on Facebook. In fact, during the ceremony he heard someone attacking Giorgia Meloni.
First he quotes the prime minister’s message: “On the day in which Italy celebrates the Liberation, which with the end of fascism laid the foundations for the return of democracy, we reiterate our aversion to all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes. Those of yesterday, which oppressed the peoples of Europe and in the world, and those of today, which we are determined to oppose with commitment and courage. We will continue to work to defend democracy and for an Italy finally capable of uniting on the value of freedom. Long live freedom!”.
Then comes the invective.
“I dedicate this message – he writes – of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the professor of the ANPI club of Venaria Reale who, this morning, in his speech on the occasion of the demonstration in the city, evoked news topics devoid of any context and even he quoted President Meloni who has not yet declared herself anti-fascist. With what constitutional reference does he insinuate the potential possibility of fascist rebirth, when President Meloni won the democratic elections in 2022!”.
The highlight, however, comes now.
“So dear professor– continues Di Bella – study the Constitution better, in no article of it is it foreseen to declare oneself anti-fascist in order to be part of the ranks of democrats. And the very fact that the professor was able to demonstrate today is proof that with the central government and the government of the city of Venaria of the same root, democracy reigns supreme. Perhaps the true fascist is he who wants to impose his unique thoughts on others and in this case declare himself anti-fascist.”
“Study the Constitution better, in no article of it is it foreseen that you declare yourself anti-fascist in order to be part of the ranks of democrats”. This is undoubtedly the most disturbing sentence written by the exponent of the Brothers of Italy. Because let’s clarify: if a person, a representative of the institutions, does not declare himself an anti-fascist, how can he be democratic? Dear councilor, democratic fascism has never existed, unless you want to invent it.
