Pavia celebrates the 79th anniversary of the Liberation

PAVIA – Pavia also celebrated 79th anniversary of the Liberation. The celebrations in the city, in the presence of Frrefect, Francesca De Carlinifrom the highest civil, military and religious authorities and of Combat and Arms Associationsbegan with the laying of a wreath at the commemorative plaque of the soldiers of the Guardia di Finanza, Martyrs for the Liberation of Pavia, Lieutenant Francesco Lillo, Officer Tommaso Coletta, Financier Roberto Spirito, killed on 26 April 1946 in a firefight with Officers of the National Republican Guard.

Afterwards, at the Major Cemetery, the Bishop of Pavia, HE Mons. Corrado Sanguineti presided over a moment of prayer and reflection at the Shrine of the 2nd World War, where the Prefect, the Mayor and the President of the Province laid a wreath of ‘laurel. The celebrations then continued with the laying of a wreath on the memorial stone dedicated to Ferruccio Ghinaglia and the celebration of the Holy Mass in the Church of Santa Maria Del Carmine.
