BADIA POLESINE (Rovigo) – Before paying homage to the fallen at the foot of the commemorative stele located on the civic tower, concluded with the blessing by Don Bryan Osti, Mayor Giovanni Rossi he focused on the meaning of patriotism today.
Taking note of the absence of young people and recalling for a moment the very recent feast of San Giorgio in Villafora, the mayor took inspiration from the news “…which seems to want to distract opinion from the profound meaning of today’s celebration“, to invite us to return to being “…patriots and patrons”. “We wouldn’t be here– underlined the mayor – if those who preceded us had not fought and sometimes sacrificed their lives for freedom and we cannot forget the family of our friend Teobaldo Rossi”, which at dawn on April 25th was exterminated in Via Colombano by the SS. For the mayor of Badia, therefore, “…these values survive only through our testimony and it will not be by appropriating a banner or some speciously polemical slogan that justice is done to the memory of those who fought for our freedom, especially in these difficult moments and with a percentage of immigrants that approaches 11% in Badia, what will we do if we ourselves don’t recognize the values of April 25th?”.
He echoed it Don Bryan Osti who, between the barking of the dogs in the bars in the square and the so to speak distracted noise of the scooters in the nearby Via Monte dei Pegni, recalled how many partisans had become spokespersons for the Christian values of freedom, with the thought “…to the many brothers and sisters who still have no freedom today”.
As always, the military associations were present, with the commander Giovanni Famiglietti for the Lendinara Financial Police, the Carabinieri Marshal Pasquale Russo and the commander of the local police Marco Faccenda. With the entire council present, the minority delegation relating to “Badia Tomorrow” also participated in the ceremony, a delegation from Avs with Gabrielle Munerato and of Aeop with the president Arduè Gianese. However, the council representation headed by Adino Rossi is absent.
