ASTI Frank and sincere wines, an expression of the territory: these are those from Asti, which stand out in the Piedmontese panorama. In pole position at Vinitaly, Canelli, Moscato, Alta Langa, Terre Alfieri, Barbera d’Asti, Grignolino and Albugnano. In fact, despite international tensions and climate changes, exports of Italian wine will grow in value again in 2024 (+14% in January alone, compared to the same period the year before). This was revealed by a Coldiretti analysis of Istat data relating to foreign trade, released at Vinitaly.

After the slight decline recorded in 2023 (7.8 billion, but still the first item in agri-food exports), the rise in Italian bottles starts again from the United States (main reference market) with a +14%. The positive increase in Great Britain runs at +20%. Modest, but significant from a market point of view, the +6% in France. Positive sign also in Germany with a +3%. Record result in Russia equal to +87%. The wine boom pushes, in turn, agri-food exports with a value of 5.3 billion euros for the month of January alone, equal to an increase of 13% compared to the same month of 2023.

The president of Coldiretti Asti Monica Monticone declared: «During Vinitaly, the growing interest of international markets in flagship wines was confirmed again this year. In this climate and in this context, the Asti wines have stood out and positioned themselves well, with a varied range of offerings: from the great red cornerstones of tradition, such as the Barbera d’Asti Docg, to the popular world of whites, in the complexity of The offer ranges from dry to lively to bubbles and aromatics. Straightforward wines, which fully express the flavor of the “Astigianity”, now with power and loudly, now with delicate and long-lasting nuances.

Interest in white and rosé wines is also growing at Vinitaly. Monticone underlined: «The Asti area responds promptly to the growing demand for white wines, offering excellent labels of Moscato, Canelli, Alta Langa and Terre Alfieri, to satisfy some of the highest expectations on the market. Likewise, also on the sustainability front, the Asti area knows how to stand out with a growing number of organic companies and entrepreneurs who have heavily invested in energy efficiency and the recovery of water resources.”

The director of Coldiretti Asti John Red he concluded: «Every time we say wine, our mind goes both to the wine excellences, of which the Asti producers are guarantors, and to a long transversal offshoot that extends from the landscape to wine tourism, made up of hospitality, agri-food and outdoors. Wine continues to be the best business card and whenever our labels stand out, the domino effect affects the entire industry, making the entire territory a winner.”
