The deployment of law enforcement in Rome is impressive: the authorities feared that the Liberation Day celebrations could lead to clashes. And the prediction was spot on. On the morning of April 25, around 8 am, two opposing groups of demonstrators met in Piazzale Ostiense. At the foot of the Pyramid of Cestius, on one side, there are the exponents of the Jewish Brigade. On the other, supporters of the Palestinian cause. The tension degenerates into insults, explosions of firecrackers and throwing objects between one fringe and another. Members of the Jewish Brigade also target journalists documenting the protests: stones are thrown at reporters and cameramen. One of them then also tries to force the police cordon to make physical contact with the pro Pals, but the police manage to block him.
«Genocides are out of history, always with the Resistance», we read on a banner behind which the pro-Palestine demonstrators gather. Shortly after 9am, the Jewish Brigade abandons the garrison and moves away from the site of the clashes.
