Athletics, the Mecozzi memorial scored 20

20th edition of the Sandro Mecozzi Memorial, organized at home by Tirreno Atletica Civitavecchia in conjunction with the student track sports championships organized by MIUR-USR, Fidal Lazio and Fidal cpRoma with the organizational and logistical support now consolidated over the years by the Civitavecchia club .

Professor Mecozzi, at the beginning of the 70s, laid the foundations of Civitavecchia athletics and for 25 years was one of the main drivers of the Youth Games in our city together with Luigi Gatti, Silvio Fontana and Giancarlo Peris.

First and second grade schools in the city and on the coast will compete in running, jumping and throwing competitions, the best in the male and female category rankings will participate in the provincial final in Rome and then in the regional final in Rieti on 7 May: IC Barbaranelli, IC Don Milani for the first degree Civitavecchia while for the second degree IIS Luigi Calamatta, Galileo Galilei scientific high school, IIS Guglielmo Marconi, IIS Guglielmotti, IIS Stendhal, for the representatives of the coastal schools we had the presence of the first degree of IC Maccarese, IC piazzale of the S.Marinella Youth, IC Alessandro Magno Rome and of the II degree with the Federigo Enriques scientific high school of Ostia and IIS Enrico Mattei of Cerveteri with a total attendance of just over 400 athletes who crossed the gate of the “Moretti-Della Marta ” .

“Great participation in all the races – they explain from Tirreno – with some highlights such as in the throws, 100m and 1000m; every year the student championships, whether now on the track or the winter ones in cross, pour positive energy into the entire athletics movement and closely to that of Civitavecchia with the possibility of knowing and having the “Queen of sports” try out and the occasion to highlight hidden talents.

Moment of emotion at the presentation of the Trophy named after Prof Sandro Mecozzi: his daughter Simona with Sandra (who ran today – out of the race – in honor of her grandfather’s memory) handing over the award to the “Barbaranelli” comprehensive institute in the hands of Prof Marco Camilletti , in the presence of Luigi Gatti President of the city facility, the Sports Delegate Matteo Iacomelli, the President of Tirreno Atletica Civitavecchia Claudio Ubaldi; a “Running Trophy” that every year will touch one of the schools participating in the championships to demonstrate that school and sport are fundamental for personal growth

Finally, a round of applause to our entire Tirreno Atletica Civitavecchia association, the organizational machine put in place was cohesive and well-established, it deployed forces in the secretariats, logistics and competition sectors with the technicians, absolute athletes and master athletes and a group of staff volunteers”.
