A first time in the history of A league on the day of the Scudetto celebrationInter. The match between the Italian champions and Torino, valid for the 34th day of the championship, will in fact have an all-female referee team. The San Siro match will be refereed by Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi of Livorno who will be supported by assistants Francesca Di Monte and Tiziana Trasciatti. The refereeing team is completed by Marchetti as fourth official and Di Paolo and Aureliano at VAR.
First time in Serie A, but not the first time for a refereeing trio feminine in a match between two top-flight teams. In January 2023, in fact, the round of 16 match of Italian Cup between Naples and Cremonese had seen the presence of a trio made up of the same three women who will be protagonists at the Meazza on Sunday. Even before that, the referee and the two assistants had been the first ever to referee a match in the main championships together in December 2022: it happened in Frosinone-Ternanaone of the Serie B Boxing Day matches.
Who is Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi
Born in 1990 in Livorno, she is the first female referee of Italian football. The debut came in Serie D in November 2015, with the Levico-Atletico San Paolo match. From then on a long climb up to Serie A. The first important match dates back to the round of 32 match of the Italian Cup 2021/2022, between Cagliari and Cittadella. A match in which he disallowed three goals, one of which with the help of VAR. A convincing performance that led her to climb the ranks of Italian referees. The debut in Serie A comes shortly after, on 2 October 2022, with the management of Sassuolo-Salernitana. After that time he collected another eight tokens in the top flight. Furthermore, he has already refereed a match between national teams, the friendly match in March last year between Germany and Peru.
