Marco Rossi: much of the credit for this Catanzaro goes to the club and the Coach!

There are those exes who leave you with indelible memories even if they played with your team for just one season. One of them is Marco Rossiborn in 1964, coach of the Hungarian national team since 2018 and protagonist of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The Piedmontese coach wore the shirt of Catanzaro in the 1987-1988 season, culminating in 5th place in the Serie B championship and the Serie A just missed out on after a terrible freshman championship. In that season “curious” events prevented the Eagles from promotion to the top flight. Rossi’s score in the 1987-1988 season was 38 appearances and three goals. (against Parma, Sambedettese and Atalanta ed.)

During our broadcast the former Giallorossi player delighted the spectators with his opinions on Catanzaro and told several anecdotes about that magnificent championship and the city of the three hills.

The first anecdote concerns the San Benedetto del Tronto race held on 2 April 1988 at the Riviera delle Palme: “That match was played on Holy Saturday, the next day no newspapers were published and that afternoon there was also a journalists’ strike, my best goal in Catanzaro –Rossi declared smiling– no one saw it!

Then immediately a thought about Vivarini’s Catanzaro: “This year I haven’t followed Catanzaro much – commented the Mister –but I have to say that the path she took as a newly promoted team is very similar to ours, we were also a newly promoted team, that year we would have deserved Serie A, then we were penalized against Lazio. Much of the credit for this Catanzaro must be given to the club and the coach, in this great journey of Catanzaro there is certainly a lot of coach Vivarini, who in Serie B is one of the most interesting profiles, if not the most interesting of all.

Subsequently, a general thought on Italian football: “Italian football is always at the top, it is no coincidence that next year we will have five teams in the Champions League, the two failures to qualify for the World Cup must not make us forget that the Italian championship remains one of the most competitive in the world

At the end there is also space for a nice little conversation with former teammate Agostino Iacobelli, another footballer from that great Catanzaro.

The chat with Mister Marco Rossi was an interesting, pleasant and full of footballing and non-footballing ideas.

The editorial staff of UsCatanzaro.net wishes Marco Rossi all the best for the continuation of his career as a coach; and obviously all of Catanzaro at the European Championships, as well as for Italy, will be rooting for the Hungarian national team and its great coach.
