Frantic hours, then the voice started to echo through the streets of the town: Mayor Renzo Calzavarini, who already seemed ready to run for a new mandate, chose to stop.
A choice that, at the moment, he prefers not to confirm or deny, postponing everything until after the presentation of the lists, on May 10th. But in the meantime the silence makes noise and seems to confirm the rumors that Marco Rossi, 24, secretary of the Lega del Medio Polesine section, municipal councilor, close to the regional councilor Cristiano Corazzari, running for mayor.
A rumor that has been mounting in the village hour after hour, as well as that of a hypothetical resignation, which was then at the center of a summit yesterday evening, from which, however, no “draughts” emerged. But other winds still blew, tense on the front of the outgoing mayor, who, at this point, one might think did not appreciate the fact that after his triumphal entry into the ranks of the League last January, greeted in emphatic tones by the same regional secretary Alberto Stefani, then found a sort of internal branch of the Northern League.
These are assumptions and, probably, those directly involved will clarify their respective positions in the next few days and what appear to be sharp edges will probably no longer be so tomorrow. What, however, seems like a fact that can already be taken for granted, barring further twists, which certainly cannot be ruled out in such a context, is that Calzavarini at this moment seems destined to take a step back and not stand in the next elections for a second term, after running alone in 2019 and thus having taken over the baton from long-serving mayor Ennio Pasqualin.
If he doesn’t run, the young Rossi would be ready to get involved. As the only candidate? Difficult to make predictions.
Calzavarini, among other things, had risen to the forefront of the news at the beginning of the school year following his election for having driven not only the municipal administration, but also the school bus during the drivers’ period of illness, to avoid leaving Frassinelle’s young students stranded. Instead, thanks to his qualification to drive school transport vehicles, he got behind the wheel and collected them one by one, accompanying them to school. He then did the same thing the following year, in 2020, when, while waiting for the renewal of the agreement for school transport, the service risked being canceled. Now, however, he seems to be the one at risk of being left stranded.
