From the Trapani Tennis Club a donation to fight cancer

For the sixth consecutive year, the Bianca Gandolfo Memorial tennis tournament donates the funds raised to the Asp of Trapani. The Trapani Tennis Club has thus donated a dynamometer to the Oncology department of the Sant’Antonio Abate hospital. It is a latest generation instrument that is extremely useful for the patients and staff of the department who will be able to benefit from it.

The delivery of the dynamometer took place in the presence of the ASP commissioner Ferdinando Croce, the vice president of the Trapani Tennis Club Umberto Coppola, Mariza D’Anna, organizer of the tournament, Leonardo Zichichi, head of the Department and all the staff.

The Circolo Tenni Trapani: “we give tangible signs for the social”

The tournament dedicated to Bianca Gandolfo, the pharmacist from the ASP of Trapani who passed away in 2015 – explains Mariza d’Anna – and every year to remember Bianca we organize this tennis tournament, in which around forty clubs from Sicily and beyond participate. With the funds raised through the tournament fees and with the contribution that the Club also gives, this year we are donating to the oncology department of the Sant’Antonio hospital an instrumentation that is requested directly by the departmentor”.

The Trapani Tennis Club supports and promotes tennis and is involved in many social initiatives with the organization of activities for young people, in the scholastic, health and inclusion fields which benefit everyone.

The tennis club – adds Umberto Coppola vice president of the Trapani Tennis Club – it is an ancient institution now almost 50 years old. The beautiful thing about the Tennis Club is that it does not only deal with sports promotion, the sport of tennis or in any case sport in general, but there is always the desire to have an impact and participate in civil society. With tangible gestures”.

Thank you – declares Commissioner Croce -. Thanks are all the more due when it comes to donations“in a department like the oncology one where the staff is busy every day”to overcome the challenges of modern medicine and healthcare. The ASP is committed to at least ideally giving free patronage to this type of initiative”.

Radiotherapy is still a dream

Present at the ceremony were representatives of the Radiotherapy Committee in Trapani who are fighting to ensure that, after 14 years of waiting, the service which the Sant’Antonio Abate hospital does not have is created. The representatives urged Commissioner Croce to ensure that the procedures for reaching the conclusion of the process, which has been unblocked also thanks to the actions promoted in recent years by the Committee, which has reached over five hundred members, are rapid and reach a conclusion soon. The commissioner has undertaken to award the contract for the construction of the building, which will be built behind the hospital, by the end of the year.

The Tennis Club has scheduled an appointment for next September for the seventh edition of the tournament which this year will be extended to all the clubs in the province.
