Conference on April 27th, from 10 am, on the theme “Local wheat and sustainable development: valorisation of local supply chains

PERUGIA, 25 April 2024 – Territorial supply chains for a profitable and sustainable development model for Umbria. It is the theme that Cia Agricoltori italiani dell’Umbria will bring to the debate in the events of Agricollina in Montecastrilli, the market exhibition of hilly agricultural machinery, zootechnics and farmyard animals which will start from Friday to Sunday.

We will talk about it on Saturday 27 April, from 10 am, at the conference “Local grain and sustainable development: valorisation of local supply chains”. «We want to turn the spotlight back on what is an important piece of the Umbrian agricultural sector, i.e. the local cereal supply chain – said Matteo Bartolini, president of Cia Umbria and national vice president -.

A year ago the national CIA started a mobilization to bring the sector back to the fundamental guarantees to continue operating, protecting producers and consumers, safeguarding Italian wheat and pasta. We collected 51 thousand signatures and brought to the table of the Ministry of Agriculture a dossier of requests and proposals to save wheat and pasta made in Italy.

For some time now we have been sounding the alarm about what ails agriculture: that of value within the agri-food supply chain. We need to review the entire model to build supply chains that are short, respectful of the environment and producers. That is, those who are concerned with protecting the territory while maintaining biodiversity. This is where our reflection starts together with farmers, institutions and consumers.”

The debate will begin with institutional greetings from Riccardo Aquilini, mayor of Montecastrilli and with the introduction of Fabrizio Busti, president of Cia Terni, Federica Proietti, manager of the Amelia plant of Molini Popolari Riuniti who will bring the experience of a 100% zero residue protected supply chain project for Umbria.

Following this will be Anna Rita Cosso, national president of Cittadinanzattiva, who will report on the importance of local supply chains for the health of the planet and the citizen, starting, for example, from school canteens and Michele Toniaccini, president of Anci Umbria. The final conclusions will be from President Bartolini. Inside the Agricollina market exhibition there will be a Cia Umbria station at stand M-33.
