Drone with handset and powerbank for a prisoner – L’Aquila

SULMONA. They were about to introduce a handset into the Sulmona prison with a drone but were surprised and reported by the police.

They are a 60-year-old man and a 25-year-old young man. The soldiers found them near the penitentiary institute and seized the mobile handset complete with power bank for charging, which were held together with nylon thread and a carabiner. The police believe that the material was intended for a prisoner.

The phenomenon of mobile phones, but also of narcotic substances, entering prison through the use of drones, is widespread both in Abruzzo and in other regions and to stem it the police have intensified controls.

PROTEST IN PRISON. Meanwhile, yesterday morning a prisoner aged around 40 went on a rampage, “kidnapping” the other inmates and the prison officers on duty for several minutes. The man, a life prisoner who had already been the protagonist of violent acts in the past, left his cell and his section to move towards the prison laundry block. Here, in a clear state of agitation, he occupied the area, protesting to the police about a package that was allegedly denied to him. Only with exhausting dialogue did the prison officers, despite the serious and long-standing staff shortages, manage to manage the delicate situation professionally, restoring calm. The inmate was then taken back to his cell.
