route and traffic and road changes

April 25th has arrived, the day of the 79th anniversary of the Liberation of Italy from the Nazi-fascists, and the Municipality of Genoa is celebrating it with the usual procession, this year well attended: from the first estimates there are around five thousand people.

The procession and the prayer in the square

The celebrations began at 8 in the monumental cemetery of Staglieno with a first procession and the laying of wreaths at the Israeli camp, at the monuments dedicated to the internees and deportees in the Nazi concentration camps, at the Trento and Trieste shrine and, at 8.50, at the camp of the Fallen Partisans where a Holy Mass was celebrated in remembrance.

Then, at 10am, the rally in Piazza della Vittoria (Via Cadorna side). From here, at 10.15am, a procession began accompanied by performances of the Filarmonica Sestrese which, along via XX Settembre, reached the Monumental bridge to lay wreaths at the shrine of the fallen Partisans and read the motivation for the Gold Medal for Military Valor for the City of Genoa and the act of surrender of the German troops. The parade route was closed to traffic.

The procession then arrived in Largo Pertini to lay other wreaths and finally reached Piazza Matteotti where the mayor of Genoa and the president of the Liguria Region brought their greetings. The commemorative oration was entrusted to Sergio Cofferati (here is the news).

During the procession, anti-Zionist banners, removed by Digos, were displayed above the Monumental bridge: “The Resistance is anti-Zionism, free Palestine” they read, and “Your 25th April: the parade of a state that is a servant of NATO”.
