Reggio Emilia, ten against one punitive expedition: they beat nineteen-year-olds with sticks

Ten against one, armed with sticks, to settle an alleged romantic rivalry. The motivation of the would be revenge for a sentimental issue beating occurred in the early afternoon of last Saturday, April 20, in the Reggio train station, when ten young people between 18 and 24 years old they surrounded a 19 year old in an underpass and started hitting him with kicks, punches and sticks, and then quickly ran away. In vain, however: the action was filmed by security cameras and noticed by the Polfer agentsand within half an hour the officers tracked down the group a short distance away.

The aggression

The story begins at 1.30pm in the underpass that leads to platform 1 East of the Reggio central railway station, in Piazzale Marconi. A 19-year-old Tunisian student was surrounded by ten boys, pushed to the ground and filled with beatings and beatings. The Polfer men immediately raised the alarm, sending some patrol cars to the station, and reached the walkway, where the 19-year-old was alone, in pain, while the attackers had quickly escaped. The injured man was taken by ambulance to the emergency room of the Reggio Emilia hospital, where he was discharged after an examination which revealed no serious injuries.

The complaint

In the meantime, also checking the other cameras, the Polfer officers provided the patrols with both descriptions of the thugs and the direction from which they had left the station. Many of the young people had white sweatshirts with hoods, clearly visible. In just over half an hour, the police found the group inside a betting shop in Via Emilia Ospizio, a few hundred meters from the railway junction, intent on gambling. The boys were searched, and it turned up a telescopic truncheon. An indication that the attack had been planned, and prepared by equipping itself with blunt objects. All ten were arrested reported for aggravated injuries in competition but not arrested, given the absence of flagrant crimes. These are people between 18 and 24 years old, nine Italian citizens from families of foreign origin and one Moroccan citizen, residing in Sassuolo and Castellarano, in the ceramic district. All with no criminal record, students or workers.

Another aspect that pushes the police to think of an expedition by a group of friends who set out specifically to attack the 19-year-old, who at that time he was waiting for the train to go home after school. The most likely reason? An argument between the Tunisian and the brother of one of his attackers, due to sentimental jealousies. From there, she pushes for revenge. Even if other avenues have not yet been completely ruled out, this would have been the spark.
