April 25th with tribute to Matteotti. Anpi: «Enough provocations, Varese is not black»

The homage to Matteotti: Magrini, Pasquariello, Galimberti and Fontana

VARESE – «It is a celebration for everyone, which must unite, not divide»: thus the president of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana he expressed himself in his speech at the Salone Estense this morning during the official commemoration of April 25th. At the center of the celebrations is the memory of Giacomo Matteotti. Words of condemnation from Anpi towards the presence in the area of groups that refer to Nazi-fascism and the image that is conveyed of Varese.

The condemnation of Anpi

«Allow me to express our strongest condemnation of the yet another provocation carried out by a small Nazi-fascist group which, with its gloomy performances, tarnishes and distorts the name of Varese and its province – he said Rocco Cordìpresident of Anpi Varese section – these are real provocations that come amplified disproportionately by a media system in which special effects often count more than the reality of the facts. Talking about black Varese as if we lived in a city and a province prey to the delusions of Nazi-fascism is truly inconceivable and it only risks fueling tensions and conflicts which sooner or later can degenerate. Therefore once again we make our appeal to the Judiciary to ensure that these groups are put in a position not to cause harm, rigorously applying the existing laws and the constitutional rule which prohibits the reconstitution of the fascist party in any form”.

Everyone’s party

The governor Fountain he made the words expressed yesterday by Luciano Violante his own. «It must be a message of unity, it must be a celebration for all the Italian people, must be the first step in the rebirth of our country, therefore a celebration for everyone. I don’t know why this party still divides, perhaps some think that it is owned only by someone, but this is the party of all those who live in our country who believe in the values of the Constitution.” The prefect of Varese Salvatore Pasquariello he connected the memory of April 25th to current events, with the unresolved drama of deaths at work. “We remember those who gave us freedom, but today we leave home and often don’t return because of work, which should instead be a source of life.” The time for speeches has taken place in a packed Estense Hall. “Next year we will look for a larger space,” the mayor said Davide Galimberti, which reiterated the concepts expressed by Anpi. «It’s sad to see this territory represented in the media isolated episodes who do not represent Varese. It is important and beautiful that the response was what we saw and of which you all are protagonists, with a democratic reaction.” Then the councilor’s speech Enzo Laforgia and the intervention of Alice Toschi.
