From playing football to playing football. The route is short (with a stop in the States)and it is the one accomplished by Matteo Serra who with the beginning of 2024 launched himself into the world of the football market by opening his own SportIT Football Busto Arsizio. “SportIt is synonymous with guarantee – certifies Serra himself by welcoming us into his shop – and I’m happy to have undertaken this adventure here in Busto because it is in fact the only point of reference in the Varese area, if we obviously exclude Milan. When it comes to football I have always focused on quality: I sell basic shoes ranging from 40/50 euros but also and above all shoes from €270, as well as gloves from €40 up to the top of the range. Is quality paid for? True, but your health is at stake: if you wear the best shoe possible you will perform at your best, you will have more sensitivity, more stability, you will not suffer from heel pain or back pain and, above all, you know you have purchased a product that will last you throughout season. Serra knows a lot about gloves since he started defending the goalposts from an early age, inOS Footballand then move on to Chicks from Solbiatese and subsequently move to Pro Patria with whom he carried out his entire youth career up to Caps. The 2019/20 season saw him defend the posts of Sesto in Excellence, before Covid stopped football and beyond; hence the choice of fly overseas and move to Neosho County, Kansas for a couple of years. “I went to the United States because there there was the guarantee and the possibility of continuing to play, which I did by being able to count on highly innovative sports centers that have nothing to envy of a medium/high ranking Serie B. The American level is growing quickly and in the USA a lot is invested both in structures and in what is necessary to perform at their best, therefore equipment and training. I had a great time and I kept part of that experiential baggage to try to transfer it here”.
A few hours after returning to Italy it arrived immediately called Varesinaand Serra didn’t miss the opportunity entering the staff of the Phoenician competitive sector taking charge of the goalkeepers of the first two years. No football played for a very simple reason: “When I returned, all the teams were now in place in terms of rosters: when the Varesina opportunity presented itself to me, I didn’t hesitate to take it and, at the same time, I turned 360° to the world of work. I tried for almost a month at Malpensa, but football is my true vocation and from there the choice to focus on SportIT was almost natural”.
The initial impact largely met predictions. “I got off to a good start – confirms Serra – helped by the position and the fact of offering products of the highest quality: rumors spread quickly and, as I said at the beginning, wearing top of the range helps improve performance on the pitch. From four years old and up, without forgetting special shirts and kits for children, there is everything a footballer needs. With the exception of those direct sales brands, there is also a vast possibility of choice and I have thought of special kits aimed at clubs that guarantee a 15% discount for staff and players. For the moment I’m really satisfied with how it’s going and I hope I can grow further”.
