The first act of the Maremma derby of the rink hockey quarter-finals comes from Follonica (final 3-4). The Skating Club surrendered at the end of a beautiful, masculine match, resolved by two inventions by Federico Pagnini and Davide Banini which at the start of the second half allowed their team to fly to 4-2. Grosseto complains about some dubious refereeing calls, which forced the team to play for a good eight minutes with one man less and a final that was too confusing. However, our thoughts are on match 2 which will be played on Sunday at 6pm at the Capannino.

Rocket start from Grosseto who in the first minute shoot with Saavedra who calls Barozzi to work, who also has to stop Thiel’s shot a few moments later. In the 5th minute after De Oro’s first expulsion of the match: Follonica has a wonderful opportunity with Davide Banini who hits the crossbar from a direct free kick. The unexpected happens in the power play: prompted by an Italian substitution, the gate on the Follonica bench falls onto the pitch and it takes twenty minutes for the game to restart. In the 9th minute Franchi breaks away from Saavedra, while in the 11th minute Marco Pagnini crashes into Català. Follonica is the first to put their heads forward: Marco Pagnini, collecting a ball from behind by Federico Pagnini, beats Català, but the reaction of the red and whites is immediate. Mario Rodriguez, after less than thirty seconds, beats Barozzi served by Saavedra. In the 13th minute the Circolo Pattinatori even took the lead: Rodriguez fell in the area following contact with Banini and De Oro converted the penalty, finding the right space to beat the Azzurri goalkeeper. In the 16th minute, Davide Banini equalized the scores with a nice personal move: the Follonica ace started from his half of the pitch, took center stage, exceeded his speed and beat Català on the way out. Before the end of the half the Cave Consortium had two good opportunities to regain the lead but Català’s leg kicks stopped a free kick from Buralli in the 20th minute, while Bonarelli’s great shot hit the left post of the Edilfox goal.

In the second half, Follonica practically decides game 1, scoring twice in just over 20 seconds: Federico Pagnini gives the guests the second lead with a nice flying shot then Davide Banini, with a great shot that slips to the right of Català, poker drops. Grosseto feels the pinch, risks a fifth goal, but slowly becomes dangerous again, but the Follonica defense keeps a good guard. In the 12th minute, a bizarre decision by the referees sent Cabella to the bench for two minutes, sending Banini to the spot, but Català stopped the third direct shot of the evening. Outnumbered, Thiel, author of a great match, almost missed out. At 16′ De Oro’s ball dances on the line but goes out. The match suddenly reopens at 7’45 with a long-range shot by Stefano Paghi that mocks Barozzi. Grosseto persists and comes close to a draw, again with Paghi. A foul on the edge of the area by De Oro was sanctioned with a penalty which Federico Pagnini had saved by Català, but as the action continued Thiel was also sent off and Català was forced to work overtime again (he saved a whopping five direct shots) stopping Davide Banini’s first free kick. A touch from Montigel 1’51 from the end allows Grosseto to have a penalty available, which De Oro puts aside and effectively gives the Azzurri the victory, even if Saavedra has a great opportunity in his goal to equalize at one a few seconds to go.
