What is photography? Knowledge of the cinematographic and audiovisual language is at the center of “ROMA EST CineLAB”, the new free educational project promoted and organized by OPES aps to get to know the craft of cinema up close. The cinema workshop is aimed at young people aged 15 to 35 in the area of the V Municipality of Rome, with particular attention to the Casilino, Alessandrino, Quarticciolo, Tor Sapienza and Tor Tre Teste districts, but remains open to anyone who wants to engage with the profession of cinema, to those who are passionate about it or just curious.

The event aims to promote cinema and audiovisual through theoretical and practical lessons, allowing students to understand and put into practice all those phases necessary for the production of a film work: from the development of the screenplay to the realization of filming and editing. “ROMA EST CineLAB” includes ten afternoon appointments from 6 to 15 May 2024 (3.00pm – 8.00pm) at the Cavanis Institute in Rome (Via Casilina 600) and includes a series of workshops and laboratories on cinematographic and audiovisual language and on the production of short films. The subjects covered in the course will be: Screenplay, Framing and Editing, Direction of actors, Direction and Staging, Organization, Filming, Elements of Editing and Photography. Within the class, depending on the aptitude of the individuals, the different roles that characterize a film production will be assigned: authors, technicians and actors. At the end of the theoretical lessons the students will be assisted in the filming and editing of a short film that will tell the story of the territory and the community.

The lessons will be conducted by professional cinema tutors including Luigi Pane (director), Simone Barletta (videomaker and editor), Mattia Mura (documentarian), Gianni Quinto (screenwriter). Masterclasses are also planned with exceptional guests from the world of cinema and the web including Leonardo Bocci (influencer and actor), Paolo Linetti (expert in iconography and customs of the 14th and 15th centuries) and Marco Testoni (musician and composer). The artistic direction of the project is by Adelmo Togliani, actor and director. Tutors and guests will provide students with content and connections between subjects in favor of a complete vision of the “cinema machine”, directing attention to the scenarios and opportunities that the film industry offers today. A fundamental aspect of the initiative, free and accessible upon registration, is the orientation of young people in the area to the theoretical and practical aspects of film production, to the languages and methodologies of cinema and audiovisual, without forgetting the most current dynamics and contexts.

The project, organized and co-financed by Opes aps in collaboration with the Cavanis Institute and with the patronage of the V Municipality of Rome Capital, is carried out as part of the Public Notice “aimed at the collection of project proposals for the realization of events, demonstrations , initiatives and projects of interest to the Capitoline Administration of city relevance” promoted by Roma Capitale in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura.
