BRINDISI – The Cobas union organizes two sit-ins on Friday 26 April and Saturday 27 April in front of the headquarters in Brindisi in via Maiorana (industrial area) of Teorema, a company that deals with the collection of urban waste, “to support the protests of many citizens who consider the management of the service insufficient for reasons that are clear to all and alongside the workers for a real change in the organization of work. In recent weeks we have requested meetings to discuss the problems that persist in the collection, but up to to date all our questions have remained unanswered”, reads a note from the union.
The statement, signed by Roberto Aprile, continues: “The commitment made by the company at the municipal headquarters in recent days, supported by trade union agreements signed upon joining Teorema, to replace workers who retired due to long illnesses, for 104 , to take over the seven former Ecotecnica temporary workers is slow to arrive and these young people continue to protest under the Municipality of Brindisi. They will be present at the sit in to ask for what has been signed and still not maintained”.
The note from Cobas explains that “after more than six months from the entry of the new Teorema company we are witnessing a vertical collapse of separate waste collection below 40 percent, complaints from many citizens about the service, temporary workers waiting to replace retired workers , they are precisely the sign of something wrong. which cancel the old tasks brought back to the historical audience to use them for other tasks as well”.
The statement concludes by listing other complaints and making some proposals: “It has been said that one of the causes why the service does not improve is absenteeism on Tuesdays and Fridays; the real reason for absenteeism arises from the poor collection of waste which on the other hand creates a mountain of unsorted waste on the days indicated, creating a lot of difficulty in collection. We are for the face-to-face fight, where we ask to improve waste sorting by also giving bags, that the company starts a much better dialogue. with the workers, strict control over the activities by the Municipality, the hiring of young people, and much more: the citizens of Brindisi pay directly for waste collection, they deserve much more than what they are receiving”.
