Zimbabwe health mission nurse and anesthetist from Cesena

“The contact with poverty is heavy, but we are working with people who have a big heart.” A delegation fromBufalini hospital in Cesena he ‘sacrificed’ his holidays for a humanitarian mission in Zimbabwe, a southern African country. A professional experience but above all a life lesson. Some young healthcare professionals left Cesena for a mission that is taking place in the town of Mutoko. A journey of over 11 thousand kilometers undertaken to help the African population by operating on several patients in need of treatment. On the front line Dario Pierantozzi, anesthetist and Beatrice Donini, nurse. All coordinated by the director of the ENT department of the Bufalini hospital in Cesena, Dr. Massimo Magnani through the Marilena Pesaresi foundation. The contribution of the Donati Study Center of the Romagna AUSL coordinated by Dr. Elena Magnani is also fundamental.

“I am part of a group of health workers – explains Pierantozzi himself who is in Africa – which is part of the Marilena Pesaresi association of Rimini. For years there has been a surgery program linked to the All Souls Mission hospital in Mutoko and this year I joined the ENT surgeon from Cesena Massimo Magnani for two weeks full immersion. All participants used their holidays to join the mission”.

Pierantozzi says that “for more than ten years an Italian missionary has taken over the reins of the hospital village and is doing an incredible job”. What situation did you find yourself facing in Africa? “The contact with poverty is heavy but the people with whom we found ourselves working have a big heart. It is very difficult for them to train and offer quality healthcare, but with this type of project a human and cultural that makes the difference. We are dealing with thyroid surgery and the removal of lipomas. Like me, there are two ENT specialists, a nurse and two residents.”
